I don't mind the Solstice Celebration in the commercial, secular sense. I do mind the "Merry Christmas" war. People use "Merry Christmas" as more of a political statement or defiance or even rebellion than a cheerful greeting.

Some people are turning the phrase Merry Christmas into a fetish, something done for its own sake instead of using it as a sincere greeting. It’s an aggressive statement about one’s own identity that is thrown in the face of others as a challenge or even an insult. It’s not about defending religious meaning in Christmas, but defending a religious identity & a set of traditional privileges.

I think you may find there are laws relating to discrimination on religious grounds.

Until the day comes that you and others can come up with an explanation for the beginning of 'life' I think it would be a safe bet to say there is something more knowledgeable than ourselves that created us and as far as Christmas is concerned, anyone who had taken the time to educate themselves a little more would know that there is a little more to it than meets your eye.

Those of us "dumb" people who believe in the celebration of the birth of Christ enjoy the holiday very much. CHRISTMAS is a religious holiday coming only in second to Easter. It's a time of celebrating and fellowship not only with our churches but with our family and friends. If you don't agree with or like the holiday then don't participate. Don't buy presents, don't accept presents, and don't accept a Christmas bonus if your employer offers you one. But the word is Christmas although many people are trying hard to remove it from the holiday. It it still a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

It does not bother me one way or the other. Christmas is a pagan celebration that Jesus would not want any part of.

As a pagan, I think it funny that most Christians are steeped in pagan mythology and do not even know it. Christians are more pagan today then Christian.

I find it odd that people get upset over stores having their employees to just say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas, especially when Christmas and the tree and all the traditions associated with it is very much pagan and has nothing to do with Christianity.

There's "public" and there's "public".

Private businesses - fine! go for it!

Private property of any kind - fine (subject to some restrictions, like not having anything so big or so bright it interferes with flight patterns) Great - have fun!

In publicly-OWNED places or on publicly-OWNED buildings? NO!

Paid for with tax dollars? NO!

people have the right to do things in public - regardless of wether you believe in what they are doing - it's called freedom of speech. you don't have to participate if you don't want to. but come on man - find the joy in life and at least try to enjoy the fun of pretty lights, eggnog, giving people you care about something special to say i love you and funny santa hats.
