A person dear to me has been diagnosed with a very difficult cancer. I want to assist in getting her the best care possible. My thought was to take her to the best cancer institute available in North America.

A few things to consider . . how does the person who is dear to you feel about traveling all around the country to find medical treatment?
That would be my first consideration.

Second, if this person wishes to travel and you want to find the best cancer facilities . . you should locate a hospital that specializes in that particular disease. If she has a sarcoma, than there are some facilities that are known to specialize in sarcoma.

Anyway, here are some top cancer facilities who are dedicated and leading the way in finding new treatment for cancer. Many of them are connected to medical research through affiliated Universities.

1. University of Texas, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas

2. Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York

3. Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland

4. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, Mass

5. Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.

6. Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C.

7. University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor

8. UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles

9. University of California, San Francisco Medical Center

10. University of Washington Medical Center, Seattle

It would be helpful to know what type of cancer your friend has. There are clinical trials going on around the country and depending on the nature of the disease not every cancer hospital may offer the same treatements.

The Mayo Clinic is very good. Chicago has some very good hospitals that treat cancer. Ask the person if you can talk to her doctor so you can find out what her doctor place her doctor would recommend.
