I hate saying xmas! it crosses out the christ and thats the whole point about christmas, celebrating the coming of christ!

That's exactly why I hate when people write xmas, I write Christmas!

I agree with you on this,it seems to me that the use of xmas is just another step to take Christ out of the picture, and the sinister thing is that people think that xmas is only a harmless way of saying Christmas, but it certainly is not.

I like saying, "Christmas". Christ is the reason for the holiday. Since only about 10 to 20 percent of the population are Christians, the majority would like to leave Christ out of the holiday. They would much rather say, "Happy Holidays", or "Seasons Greetings".

Christmas. Xmas started as an abbreviation for the word.

I was brought up with that same notion, too. But it turns out that what we see as "X" is actually the Greek letter Chi, which was used by the early Church to represent Christ. So it's not crossing Jesus out at all!

Now personally, I hate it. I think it looks ugly and it's lazy. I will use it as a shorthand when making quick notes or lists by hand, but I tend to avoid it.
