That severely depressed individuals who consume large quanities alcohol (compared to those who are not under the influence) are more likely to attempt suicide? Please, informed answers only. Thanks everyone.

Yes, many people that use alcohol as a coping mechanism have personality disordered traits. With 1 in 10 complete suicides in personality disordered individuals means that this risk is hightened.

Also alcohol disrupts thinking patterns so not even those who are clinically depressed and drink are at risk also.

Yes it is true. Alcohol is a depressant. It will make a person who is already depressed even more so. I have depression and use to drink alcohol during that time I attempted suicide 3 times. I haven't drank in 4 years now, I take my medication and feel much better.

Yes it is, because I'm a recoverying alcoholic and I take medication for depression as well. Someone who is self-medicating themselves with alcohol for depression definitely has a higher potential for committing suicide.

self medicating in this way doesn't work, and suicide related to that depression therefore happens, or doesn't, but you have nothing helping you

also, drinking lowers your body's defenses and this could be the reason for hangover...

Yes. They are already in a depressed state and alchohol is a depressant.

Yes, alcohol how will make them feel good at first, but then when they sober up it can be a downer.
