Starting this Sunday after Mass we will light the first purple candle and say Vespers. This will continue every evening through ICXCMass Eve when we will celebrate the First Mass of Christmass in a real horse stable with animals and everything (smells included).

Our family does. Advent consists of 4 weeks prior to Christmas. This coming Sunday we will light the first of four candles. The first 2 weeks are purple candles, the 3rd is pink and the 4th is purple too. At the end of the 4th week we will have all 4 candles lit. It is a beautiful experience to share with your children, so they can learn the true meaning of Christmas... Jesus's birthday!

This may not actually be the anser you were looking for, but I love advent.
Up goes the crown, and the welcome light (my wife is German), out come the advent biscuits, mince pies, stollen. Nuts and satsumas on the sideboard. Christmas pudding every Sunday.
Excellent build up, but not a religious one in your sense, I'm afraid.
