I refuse to pay for the digital upgrade. $53 for cable should get excellent reception on all channels. But my big screen especially has poor reception or color lines on some channels. It looks great when playing DVDs so I know it's not the TV. I have a DVD and separate VCR players hooked up as well as upgraded cables. Thanks for your ideas!

if your house was built with the wiring already installed you could be looking at a cheap wiring system. This happens often with the builders. I have had many friends have to call to have the whole house rewired. Either for Cable TV or internet service and it was well worth the trouble. One main headache may be where they installed the inside cables. Some you can not get to after they install the ceiling and walls and such.
this is easy to have comcast check. they can check the signal strength going into your house and than the signal at the TV or computer and see if you are lossing it from inside wiring

If your TV is an HD Capable set and your cable is not HD that is the problem. We have a lot of people complain about Digital Cable on HD Sets because the "Digital Cable" name is pretty much a joke. The signal is not truly digital because it is going through THREE digital to analog conversions before it reaches your Television. If you're watching through Channel 3 that's a big problem too, but if you're using Composite, or S-Video this will help a little. The biggest problem with Cable and HD capable TVs is the Progressive Scan Line Doubler built into all TVs, they take an incoming signal and basically fill in the missing information, but because Digital Cable goes through the Digital To Analog Conversion so many times the signal is poor when it gets there, so the poor signal is doubled in a sense. If you're paying $50 now for Cable, I'd look into DirecTV because it doesn't go through the same conversions, it comes into your box Digital and out Digital based on how you connect it to your TV. And for $63 you can get 200 channels in digital and another 20 or so in HD.

This is one of the points that we've been having to do a lot of training on over the last two years for our retailer trainings, we've heard this complaint alot. Digital cable is very pixelated, so when it goes through the line doubler in the TV it becomes twice as bad.

I hope this helped.

What you should do is cancel out the Comcast and install Insight Cable. They are the best. I've had so much trouble with Comcast. Don't bother with the Dish network or DirectTV sattlelite companies. Always have bad reception with them. It could be just cloudy outside and you won't get any signal at all. ANd they still will charge you for it. With Insight Cable you ALWAYS have a signal and great reception.

Have you checked the cables lines outside your home? You are right you do not need to get Comcast's digital cable box in order to get a good reception. You probably have a bad connection somewhere. I have Comcast I won't pay for the stupid box either and I still get great reception.

There are still bugs with the system, but you may be able to get
a better reception by using the RCA type audio and video
connections. I tried this and it works a lot better. You
may have to make adjustments in the Comcast
display menu to get it to work -and voila!

My new TV started to get bad Comcast reception...
i read all I needed to do was unplug the tiny cable box from the outlet for 30 seconds - this allows it to reset and update the connection...

IT WORKED ! ! ! ! !

make sure all your connections are tight. a loose connection can do that. if it still does it after you check, then make sure your cable isn't broken somewhere either in the house or outside. remember that it may not look broken but if the cable was ever bent or was kinked, the insides may be shot. if after all that it still does it then i would replace any splitters you may have hooked up as then they are more then likely bad.
