Understanding your fear is the second step to diminishing them. The first step is admitting that fear has some control over a specific situation. Everyone has fears. It is a human emotion, and a real motivator. Everyone also learns how to control these fears. The bravest person has fears, they just don't let the fear stop them from accomplishing the desired outcome. This is not always easy and sometimes it requires prior training so that you can understand that you are capable of overcoming the instance of your fears.

She needs to say "No" to 3 things a day that her first instinct was to say yes to, and "Yes" to 3 things that her first instincy was to say no to. This will force her to recogize when she's instinctively acting out of fear and, after she realizes that she can say/do what she wants for herself and there aren't horrific consequences, she'll be free to be her own person.
