I just don't understand how these holier-than-thou people can ignore habitat destruction, extinction, and pollution so easily.

Because they have been brainwashed from birth. The republicans who sent our young people to Iraq so that Cheney & Bush Sr could make money off of Haliburtin have sold their soles to the devil.

I don't know. I think I would fall under the category of conservative christian, and I don't think I rationalize the destruction of the environment. The Bible actually tells us that God put man in the world to take care of the world (Genesis 2). It is true that some conservative christians are like that, but the attitude is not exactly sourced in Christianity.

We don't ignore it. It just seems that it is sort of trivial. We are told in the Bible that this world is not perfect because man has sinned. We know there will be destruction of the land and trees and killing of the animals. We don't really like that... it's just there is not much we can do. We'll help in small ways, but we can't make it our top priority in life. We focus on worshipping God and living a life of praise.

And where did you get the connection between Christians and the environment? You know, non-Christians destroy the invironment, too. You can't put the blame on us.

It is because of the idiocy that was stated in a previous message. They don't care because they are going to leave away. The woman actually stated its not like its going to be thousands of years. Hey you it has already been over 2000 years. Your kind is destroying the most sacred thing that was entrusted to us... The Earth. She is what is important. She is the here and now and you better get your head out of your butt and realize that or you won't make it till the day that you believe will happen.
I want the Earth intact for all the lives I look forward to leading.

We don't, but we do think that the Lord is going to return for His own soon and then the great tribulation. During that time the spotted owl or El nino wont matter. God is going to destroy or purify the earth and the New Jerusalem will be set up as an eternal place for us to worship. If we thought things were going to go on like they are for thousands of years , it might be different.

And how do you rationalize stereotyping every conservative Christian? I think we have more respect for The Earth because we believe God created it. You on the other hand think it was an accident that could happen again. So you have no respect and feel no responsibility. But that's just my opinion.

A passage in the bible translates to something like "and man was given dominion over the earth" or animals, or suchline.
Meaning we own this rock. We can do what we like.
In recent years, in an attempt to sacve the environment, many bibles altered their translation to "Stewardship" rather than "dominion".
But honestly, there's nothign that says you can't mess up this planet. It's not an UN-Christian thing to do.

I think some of the conservative Christians (not all) really believe Jesus is going to come back, take them all to heaven, and after the war between God and Satan is over, wave his magic wand, and the environment will be healed and pristine.

Don't you know?
That mythical guy jesus is coming back *any day now*, and that will be the end of the world.
What's the point of preserving the environmental future of the planet if it's going to end any day now? Hmm?
Besides, "god" won't let us destroy our world -- that's his job. He'll step in and prevent any big catastrophes. He promised so in the bible.

(and yes, what a crock...but the above was what a christian actually told me!)

Since when do Christians want to destroy the environment. We are stewards of this earth.
