The great counrty of England, the UK has alaway been there home, started around the turn of the century I have an old tin, I am a collector, we have them in Canada, Nestle which is not an American company, head office is in Bern Switzerland, but most Americans assume, that the world revolves around them and that they invented everything including the wheel.

Trouble is nothing the Yanks take credit for or call there own was invented or originated there, Hot dogs from Germany, Apple Pie from Holland, Mustard from France, coffee from Brazil, tea from China the only thing that the Americans can take credit for is Global Warming, and they still deny that exsists to???

I don't know what you define as "Street Chocolates". I do know
that chocolates have been made for centuries all throughout
Europe. With this idea the assumption could be made
that the British started making "street chocolates".

I have to say though with companies like Godiva, and Ghirardelli I like American chocolates better. No offense to the British companies but I find many of their products too "sweet" for my palette. What is great also is that people are starting to discover some great American artisanal chocolate makers like Guittard.

It must be noted that these great companies wouldn't ever been
created if it wasn't for the traditions of chocolatiers in Europe all through and including the UK.

UK. We have enough crappy chocolates in the states, we don't need to invent them for the UK too.

Quality is a bit of an overstatement, but then I've always had a fussy palette when it comes to good food in any category.

UK, York, the factory was opposite the swimming baths. My auntie Elsie used to work at Rowntrees (back in the day) and she used to always have "mishapes" round her house :)
