Has something happened that has upset him? That is often a reason for neutered cats to spray.
Any new animals, that may make him feel threatened?
Keep him inside at night and let him out during the day. If he is out during the night another (entire) tomcat may be threatening him. Wash the areas where he has sprayed with vinegar to neutralise the smell. By using most household cleaners it encourages the cat to spray more because they are ammonia based (the basis of urine).
Perhaps to begin with, keep him confined to one room, with his tray, food, water and bed. Then leave that door open after a few nights, but leave the litter tray in the same place.
Good luck with him

I don't have the answer but I DO have a very similar question. I have 4 cats and they have all been 'fixed' and all are related and about the same age. One of them is marking HER territory or peeing or something, but again, the smell is horrendous! I wish fixing them was the answer, but she's been fixed a year now and has just started doing it again. She used to do it about 1 1/2 years ago, stopped for a while and is back at it. Good luck with your problem....
I read the answer about vinegar and will definitely give that a try. Usually I just end up throwing out whatever it is...

your problem is because he has not been neutered. With all that testosterone running through his system he feels the need to mark "his territory" which is your house and everything in it. He also will go around looking for females, so be careful when you open the doors. He may sneak out behind you. I would get him neutered quickly so you can stop the spraying before he grows into this habit. Goodluck!

I had a cat that would randomly pee on soft things in the house. Got so bad after six years I almost gave her to the shelter. Recently i found a calming collar made by sentry. Its made of cat pheromones of a nursing mother cat. my cat also meowed like she was always looking for some thing. She was never truly relaxed. Within one day of putting this collar on her she was calmly sleeping on the couch. She no longer meows intensely either. She is a totally new cat, relaxed, calm, and i doubt she will be peeing any more either. The collar is rubbery like a flea collar. Breaks away if tugged on and smells like lavender.
It saved my cat and me. Only cost me about $15.00. you can get three packs for 20$ on line . I highly recommend this to any one with cat issues.
I tried using the wall plug in diffusers made of the same stuff. it just never worked for her.

Get him fixed. Do NOT put him outside, that drastically reduces the life span of cats, even if they are only outside for a small part of the day. Try to get him fixed and see the difference. I had two male kittens who were fighting with each other over my sister and I, after we got them fixed...no more fighting, no more pissing.

i had a cat that i loved like him before,i had to get him desexed and he still was not so friendly, but he stoped marking but i had to give him to a friend that was single older male, there a perfect couple.he's happy and i still visit.but if your dead set on keeping him get him fixed right away and use clove oil, lemon and orange oil mixed with a little water, this will keep him from marking and also off stuff.as for your bed steam clean it or he'll keep doing it to remark his area.

Aside from getting him neutered, I suggest playing some classical music when you have to leave him alone. According to a pet magazine, cats spray when they're stressed and the music relaxes them.

If you have him neutered, he'll stop spraying the house and his personality will drastically change. Trust me- I've had cats both ways!

Put him outside! Why do you people insist on keeping animals inside your house? In my opinion, it is stupid! The health risks alone are enough for me. I make my wife keep her cats outside. Year round. That is where they belong. If you keep an animal in your house, you asked for whatever it does in your house.
