Christianity in it's purest form, without all the generalizations, dogma, and judgement, is a GOOD thing. Christ was a messenger. His message is a beautiful and powerful one, when left UN-iterpretted by simple humans. It should inspire spirituality.
As for American culture, it's already a vibrant blend of cultures, originating in Christianity, so... no, Christianity will not be the death of it...
But I DO think (IMHO) the heretical sects of Christianity give it a bad name to the rest of the Spiritual Community, and that it is a shame that some of them cannot reconcile the grace and truth in the other spiritualities around them.

First of all Christianity and the birth, development and current state of American culture are inextricably linked - so no, it is not philosophically reasonable to assert that it will be the death of the same culture it has nurtured. It is more likely that American culture will tire of its connection to Christianity and severe the link.
As to the death of spirituality - to what universally accepted understanding of spirituality (to which the Christians are in no way connected) do you subscribe?

Understand the concept, meaning and purport of Spirituality... thy doubts will vanish for ever!
Spirituality: what it truly means to you!
Spirituality is one word which puts a human being on the highest pedestal of life. It is field of Spirituality traveling which one reaches the last leg of cosmic life nay the form of human being himself!
The goal of Spirituality is attaining salvation moksha in Hinduism! From the beginning of the first manifestation as an amoeba to the last manifestation (the 8.4 millionth manifestation)... the goal of every life remains the same.
The phase of life as a human being announces that the life has come full circle. It is only as a human being that one can get enlightened (reach the stage of Nirvikalpa samadhi) and attain salvation moksha in Hinduism. Reaching the stage of enlightenment is the last step in the field of Spirituality.
Spirituality is living life as it was meant to be... not as we may have desired or wanted living it. Living a life of choice is not the forte of all human beings. Those on the path of pure Spirituality... the true seekers of Spirituality are sometimes able to manifest destiny by establishing absolute control over it.
It is a certain fact that only the true seekers of Spirituality become the masters of their destiny. Knowingly or unknowingly many people who have a materialistic goal in life travel the path of Spirituality and become successful in life. It was not a happening by chance... all was the result of a law which cannot err. These highly acclaimed individuals unknowingly tread the path of pure Spirituality and achieved the goal of their life.
Spirituality in other terms means that before we ask God the Almighty for material riches to be bestowed upon us... we need to compensate by giving something equivalent or more back to the community. This is the path undertaken by most successful entrepreneurs.
In terms of Spirituality we are not supposed to get anything unless we promise to do something in return... in the system of God there is fair play all throughout. As we desire... so shall be the corresponding karma we would be required to perform. Mere false promises bring us nothing. More on spirituality here- http://www.godrealized.org/Spirituality.html

Honey, the only american "culture" is yogurt.
Everything else is imported.
Actually Sheldon's right about spirital apathy and new age instant gratification. It's more likely to kill spirituality than anyhtign else.

I think that there is a distinction between fundamentalist christianity and liberal christianity. I think the first type is a serious attack on spirituality because I don't believe their can be spirituality without mental freedom and self will. As for American Culture thats pretty broad and possibly an Oxymoron.

Religion has served its purpose and is already begun to dessolve, after some years of tribulation humanity will be living on a level of spirituality, having fulfilled the law,no more "sinners"The answer to your question is no,it will be the death of itself. Because today there are to many religious leaders who do what Jesus accused the scribes & pharisees of, Ye hypocrites, you will not enter in yourselves and you stand in the doorway and will not let those who would enter do so. (Speaking of unity with God in spirit.)

No. Christianity and Gods is rather the solution to our bizzare world. With tragedies and diseases befalling the race of men God is our only hope to the solution. Therefore christianity is rather shaping the world of troubles and bad culture, with every prayer for our nation, there is joy given to us by God.

No, but I do believe that there are those who would like to destroy Christianity and impose their immorality on others, and would seek to harm Christians to do it.
Christians are entitled to their beliefs and the last time I looked, this still America where were all entitled to free speech.

No, I actually think that Christianity is perfectly fine. It is the fundamentalists that are the idiots. Education will help. Send a fundamentalist to college, no more fundamentalist.
