This church age does not acknowledge "gifts" of tongues and prophesy from the Old Testament and people who claim they have them are false and misinterpreting the Bible.

The five fold ministry of the Lord is Apostals, Evangelists, Prophets, Pastors & teachers (Ephesians). These are specific offices or ministries.

Every born of God Christian is anointed with the Holy Spirit who is with and will fill. The Holy Spirit is one but the gifts are different. The gifts are given according to Holy Spirit. Gifts are a word of knowledge, wisdom or understanding. Gifts of healing. Gifts of prophecy. Gifts of speaking in tongues and gifts of interpreting tongues. Tongues is really speaking holy language. Tongues are available to all Christians, but some don't receive it. To receive it one needs to be open for the gift and not critical of it. And one needs to be praising God out loud as the Spirit leads. Usually someone anointed with the gift should pray over person receiving the gift. The gift of speaking in tongues in praise language to God is a spiritual rush, and person bubbles over in praise.

This an initial sign of being filled with the Holy Spirit. Recent studies have proved that there isn't increased brain activity during the gifting, so it is a surrendering to the Holy Spirit & God. You have to trust God completely. When one is praising God out loud and the anointing hits, God fills the person and controls the words that flow.

The spirit intercedes for us in prayer, when we don't know how to pray, or to build up our most Holy Faith. Also it is used in a word for God to the church. 1-3 people speak a message in a different language and there is an interpretation by 1-3 people. Sometimes it is meant for just one person who knows a different language; though the person speaking the message doesn't understand the words himself.

There are many gifts out there in Christian stores, web sites, etc. Right now I am ordering the book 'Good Morning, Holy Spirit' by Benny Hinn. $15 item code 629SG orig. $25. Call 800-433-1900 to order from this sales catalog push phone button 6. Web site: www.BennyHinn.org.

I use speaking in tongues to speak directly to God.
Tongues is an unselfish prayer, spoken straight to Gods spirit.

The book of Genesis tells a story about the beginning of the world's languages. As people were building a tower, the Lord confused their language so that they were "not able to understand each other."
People who speak different languages are mentioned as enemies of God's people (Jeremiah 5:15). But God's promise was that one day all the different peoples of the world would worship the LORD all powerful (Zechariah 8:23).

The New Testament tells of the fulfillment of this promise of worship in different languages. In Acts 2 we read that some of Jesus' followers were gathered in a room a few weeks after His resurrection. The scriptures say that "They were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak different languages by the power the Holy Spirit was giving them." (Acts 2:4)

The gift of speaking in tongues is available today as are all the gifts.

I use tongues for praise and prayer whn the spirit overcomes me. i dont use them when I am not in the walking with God, only when I have achieved a close connection through meditation and prayer. i think some churches like the pentacostals use them irregulary, and unbiblicaly. Only to be used for prophecy when an interpreter is present. I havent caome across on yet. Prophecy now a days pertains to connecting the bible to what's going on today in the world, not looking into the future, like prophets. May god bless you with al lthe gifts he has prepared!

Going off MLM, the gifts are more spoken about in the new testement, primarily corinthians.

tongues are available for anyone.....ask for it and do not give up until you get it.....this "it" is really a person... the holy spirit is praying thorugh you...some people can recvie this gift thorugh prayer by the church... other receive this gift in private....open your mouth in faith and just make any sound.. disconnect your brain.. it is not a mental accomplishment.....do not speak english....continue to do this until you have relaxed enough to let the holy spirit take over.

i sing in tongues to praise and worship music... i love it..also for prayer and intercession....

real prophesy is more rare.. there are some who imagine they have this gift... but they just speak generalizations... stuff that sounds good.... avoid them

Well...it is my understanding that sometimes we do not know what we need to pray for...but the Spirit does...that is why we need to yield to the Spirit. So if we only pray using words that we know....we are limited to our own understanding....No one gets to pick what gifts you are given...but I think we should be open to all that the Lord wants to give...and we should desire all....they will speak in new tongues, Mark 16:17... and forbid not to speak with tongues, I Corinthians 14:39....pretty clear to me....

It is called glossolalia. Sometimes God can speak directly to our soul/spirit and this is done is a form that is not comprehensible to the human mind. At times it is possible for it to happen for the spiritual uplifting of the community. I think that in some cases it is only coming from the persons subconscious because they want to believe that it will happen. IMO, I think that it is rare, but does still happen.

i was baptized in the spirit of God a few months ago. i was saved nearly two months before that. God gave me a new heart with new desires then but i wasn't baptized in the Spirit, just sealed. well when He chose to baptize me in the Spirit (it was his timing, not mine), i immediately began to speak in tongues. i use it in intercession and praise. if you're spirit filled , then i believe you have the gift of tongues. but you can be saved, and not be spirit filled though. just sealed.

Gifts of the spirit are most definitely here today. Just don't get them confused with what people call "speaking in tongues". That is gibberish and is not of God. It does not glorify God if no one else understands what you are saying.

Stay away from that. Everything comes from one of two sources, and if speaking in tongues isn't of God, well then you catch my drift.

EDIT: Anyone who says you have to speak in tongues in order to be "sealed" by the spirit is a liar. It is not biblical.
