Sounds like a butcher job to me......a hernia is the muscle UNDER the skin and should have been easily patched without wacking off your BButton.

A knife happy quack I think. Probably worth about 50K

NO its not ...my dad was in the hospital for 6 months and has a hernia from his groin to sternum and has no belly button and THAT is STILL NOT malpractice...People who sue just because are the reason I own a gun, a cement mixer and a boat (not realy but kinda)

Do you still have the hernia?

If not, there's no real case. You'd have to convince a jury that you were harmed by not having a navel.

Also, check the consent you signed before the surgery. Most say that there are no guarantees for any surgery. If the surgery was successful, but you don't like the looks of the scar....

I've had surgury for a hernia and still have a belly button, they put in teflon sheet in and about a hundred staples. Get a second opinion, My belly button is still there so I'm surprised, didn't your doctor mention this to you first. Weird get another opinion.

no it is not. Though your doctor should have told you before hand that this would happen. A ventral hernia repair always results in loss of the navel.
