the two incidents may not even be related. A vast majority of people that undergo gastral surgery do fine. They are however in a high risk category for any surgery because of their weight (which is what the gastral surgery hopes to correct) It is more likely that your sister had a heart attack because of her weight, you have my condolences.

Yes: neighbors of mine had a family friend who died following her stomach getting stapled. The job was poorly done and she had to get it redone when the acids in her stomach leaked. She was a mother of at least two, and was a strong-willed person. I think she died on a New Years Eve or day last year or two years ago.

Sorry to hear about your ex sister in law. I have a friend who had her stomach stapled and because she was such a habitual over eater, she ended bursting her stomach. Now she is in very bad shape, confined to her bed and is being tube fed. So sad as she is about the same age as your ex sister in law.

No. But during the procedure, the surgeon accidentally stapled his hand to a friend's liver. He looked pretty funny walking around with this guy's arm under his jacket.

I know people who have died from having surgeries not specifically related to stomach stapling.
Surgeries are always dangerous.
Sorry about your sister-in-law.

no you can't die from it being done. the biggest thing that can happen is them start falling out. but 9/10 times they all arn't going to fall out at once. when my little boys mom had a c sections she got staples an they ended up fine with no problems

Yes, my neighbor passed almost a year ago. The doctors tried to blame it on an ulcer. It later came out that the surgery was to blame.
