Good levels of hemaglobin is essential to having enough energy. The function of Iron in hemoglobin is to carry oxygen to the whole body - you have to have oxygen to produce energy. You should not perform at track meets until you are heatlhy again.

Do you know why you are anemic? Are you underweight? Do have have heavy bleading? Do you get enough iron in your diet? Do you have celiac disease and have a hard time absorbing nutrients, including iron.

It really is important that you find out WHY you are anemic. It is not a good idea to take iron supplements without a physician's guidence. It is possible to get too much iron, however it usually takes a few years of overdosing to get too much.

Please find out why you are anemic. And please do not participate in track meets until you feel better and have more energy.

If your anecmic start eating lots of meat beef, liver, etc. if your a vegan eat spinach and dark green leafy veggies. Iron supplements can be dangerous and it's not wise to take it with out your doctor telling you to. B 12 is a good vitamin and helps your body absorb iron better. If your doctor prescribed you medication for anemia take it, you will notice your track meets won't me as good because your body isn't getting what it needs to run. A regular multiple vitamin will help you. And one other thing are you sure your anemic, or are you just not eating/sleeping right. Good luck, it your body doesn't feel right get yourself checked by a doctor, and mention this to your coach, he/she should be able to help as well

If you have anaemia it is essential you take the medication you were prescribed for it. Anaemia causes tiredness amongst other things so your track performances will not be as good as they could be. You will really notice how much better you feel after taking iron.
