The purpose that Buddhists ask questions back when they were asked is because they want to direct people to look inwards. Most people has been conditioned to look for answers "outside". By asking questions back, this led the other person to reflect for themselves. It's not that the Buddhists have no answer, but sometimes if they just give the answers straight away, then its not really advantegous to the questioner because sometimes people just take answers for granted without examining them.

Usually the questions will lead the questioner to think about something that they can relate to their own question and find the answers by themselves. Anyway, the key to Buddhists is this: "The answer is in here, not out there."

Buddhists beleive it's not the answer you need but the search of the answer. Buddhists with answers are considered enlightened and move past our reality of perception.
