There are several reasons, I will state a few. One, God decreed that blood was the medium for it, not sure totally why. Second, it is proof of life or death, blood is very important and symbolic- but the symbolism is real. It is life. I think there is a spiritual truth to the physical reality of blood cleansing [like a wound]. Lamb's blood merely covered sin in OT, it took a symbolic Lamb, a sinless [did not disobey God once] person to take the sins away from us, and kill it on the Cross. Also, in a way, it is almost like Christ gave away His blood so we could have it and be alive with it...blood sustains life. Like a transfusion. It speaks in a sense too, Bible says that Abel's blood cried out to God from the ground.
God is Spirit. Our spirits died inside us when we sin, which everyone does. His blood re animates our spirits. We come alive again. We are dead, and are delivered into new [God, spiritual] life...we are re born. Saved from death. Thank You Jesus.

Why indeed? As Christians we say that Jesus died on the cross for our sins because that was the ONLY way to redeem mankind. But could God have chosen another way? If he could have then Jesus died in vain. If he could not have then God is bound by some principles and laws. Would God be able to breath into existence a law that he, as lawmaker, must be bound by, or would that law need to come around by something greater? What a fine mystery...

God probably could have chosen another way.
The laws set up in OT times, required the sacrifice of a perfect, unblemished lamb, and the shed blood of that lamb was often sprinkled on another lamb and let go into the wilderness, symbolising the taking away of ones sins.
It soon became a joke or an easy way to sin and act forgiven.
So God sent His Son. An unblemished, perfect lamb for our sins.

God is perfectly just and can't just sweep sin under the rug or ignore it. All sin must and will be punished. Jesus took on a true human nature so He could pay for sin. As a man He qualified to pay for mans sin against God. No other creature would satisfy justice. The wages of sin is death so He had to die. Our sin is then justly punished in Him so Gods justice is met and He can forgive us, that is those who are in Christ and belong to Him.

"Without blood is no remission of sin." Our sins are so incredibly bad in God's eyes that the only payment for them is death.("The wages of sin is death.") In the old days, God accepted a slaughtered lamb or bullock in payment for sins, but the blood never really covered them. It was only symbolic and was accepted until a proper sacrifice could be made. We cannot give our own blood for our own sins, because we are unclean. The only acceptable sacrifice is God's blood, which is pure and clean and sinless. So He made himself a man and sacrificed Himself and paid the penalty once for all. Now the universe will be clean and purged of sin, once those who have rejected this sacrifice have been eliminated.

Great question. Even while I was a christian I would wonder about this.
Back then life was thought to be in the blood of living creatures. I still dont know how to draw the connection between giving blood and my 'sins'

don't try use basic human logic with these people. They'll say blood sacrifice was needed because in those times that's how things were done; as if that answers anything. And don't try telling them how Jesus' death is a clear cut example of child abuse from god, sadistic, and down right stupid. Christians always love to use the "imagine you went to jail and someone paid your bail," great. How about "imagine you went to jail and someone wanted to serve the time for you or pay with ounces of blood, not gonna happen."

God could have done it any way He wanted, but He choose it this way to show us the ugliness of sin. that its vile and leads to death. and look how most keep sinning. What if He hadnt even made it this graphic, more would sin. It is ugly, this sin. leads to death and destruction. We force God to do such things by refusing to love Him and obey Him. Dont blame God. He just does whatever it takes to proove to us that He tried with all He had to show us. Its our choice to accept or reject. God knows best ,remember: If there was an easier way tht would work, He would use it. and remember He doesnt send us to hell. ppl do tht by rejecting HIM.

Good question. there's always an easyer way for God to get rid of our sins. imagine if God had a "magic wand" to erase all the sins in our life, just like that they were all gone would you really feel the full conviction of your sin, of course you wouldn't because that means you wouldn't feel bad about them, because everytime you sinned God would wave the "magic wand" and it would disappear. God had to use Jesus to make us realise how bad our sins are and to make us realise we need Jesus. he used Jesus to give us a conviction of the sins we had commited. That wasn't the reason alone Jesus had to die just apart of it. i hope that made sense

God didn't wanna just say poof and save us like that. He wanted to show us how much He really loves us by making the ultimate sacrifice. God was willing to buy us no matter the cost( His Son)
