The independent website "Adherents.com" has this chart (abbreviated and columns switched):
http://adherents.com/adh_rb.html#International

Religious BodyNumber of Adherents
...
. 16,811,519 Seventh-day Adventists
. 15,597,746 Jehovah's Witnesses
. 12,275,822 ...Latter-day Saints

The webpage had a footnote on Jehovah's Witnesses:
[quote]"** Jehovah's Witnesses: This 15+ million figure is the approximate number of adherents -- intended to reflect all those who consider Jehovah's Witnesses their preferred faith, regardless of current activity status. Figure is based on reported once-a-year memorial attendance (adjusted). Actual number of publishers was 6 million worldwide in 1999. Worldwide, the number of practicing Jehovah's Witnesses may actually be higher than the number of practicing Anglicans."[unquote]

At one point do we start calling Jehovah's Witnesses a mainstream religion?

I checked two websites, and apparently there are now more associated with Jehovah's Witnesses than with the Southern Baptist Convention!
16,383,333 Jehovah's Witnesses
16,270,315 Southern Baptist Convention

http://jw-media.org/people/statistics.htm
http://www.lifeway.com/common/clickthru/0,1603,Art=162352,00.html?X=/article/?id=162352

Are there any published figures to compare these two religions?
This seems astounding.

Most people I know consider us to be part of a mainstream religion. I think when people refer to us as a cult or our beliefs as unchristian they do not know what the terms "Christian" and "Cult" mean. Then again some others are simply misinformed as to our beliefs. I have seen so many answers and questions on here that show that people either do not know what we believe or are just lying about our beliefs. Religion is a hot button issue. Those who are actually willing to listen to us( and not just believe rumors, lies, misinformation, and misunderstood info) I think probably consider us mainstream. Those who do not wish to see us for what we are (people striving to serve Jehovah and follow the principles in the Bible) may never be willing to see us as mainstream.

I consider Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Seventh Day Adventists to be mainstream.

They are certainly living their religions with more devotion than the average Christian.

Southern Baptists would like to list them as cults (with a negative connotation) but will have trouble once they are outnumbered by them.

I don't have any published figures, but I do know that they have been consistent in the going door to door thing that they do, this could explain why there is an increase in numbers. I do not believe that they changed the bible; I think people say that out of hate and ignorance.

I know something about Jehovah's Witnesses and they believe that EVERYBODY who survives Armageddon is either anointed remnant or "great crowd".

Man oh man, there's alot of people willing to say and do anything to make Witnesses look bad.

Numbers are not too relevant, if sheer volume was important than Catholics win hands down with 1 billion members.

A more important question is whether a religion with only a few million people out of the global population of 6 billion has the right to say only they have truth and only they will be saved?

Watchtower 1989 September 1 p.19 “Only Jehovah’s Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the “great crowd,” as a united organization under the protection of the Supreme Organizer, have any Scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by Satan the Devil.”

It doesn't matter what the numbers are. Jehovah is interested in quality, not quantity.

No doubt there's a lot of JWs but it wont be considered a main stream religion because it doesnt follow basic Biblical teachings in Christianity. The different denominations in Christianity disagree on points but they agree on some crucial points. The Bible is the Word of God and isnt to be changed to fit the doctrines of man (the JWs have their own version of the Bible, which changes in it to fit their teachings) Physical ressurection of Jesus (JWs do not believe He rose physically from the dead) God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (JWs believe Jesus is Michael the Archange and not God.. and the Holy Spirit is just an "active force) Those who are forgiven through Christ's blood will go to Heaven, the rest will have Eternal Torment in Hell (JWs believe only 144,000 will go to heaven, others, saved through faithful service will live on Paradise Earth and all others will just cease to exist) These are just a few of the main beliefs that keep them from being considered mainstream.
