Becky,
Please take time to talk to the doctor. He should be able to tell you what is ahead for you and your Mom. Please talk to him as soon as possible. The choice of treatment is for your Mother to make, and it is not always the easiest for for those of us that are left to take care of the sick. God Bless you and your family in this time of need.

Hi Becky, you really should talk to her doctor and then join a support group, it's really rough when a parent or family member has cancer, it's just nice to know people are out there to talk to when you need to, there are alot of online groups too so you can fit it to your schedule when you post a note or not. Usually what happens is either the tumor will grow and push on the heart, causing a heart attack, it could spread into the chest cavity and lungs or other organs or to the brain. She will have pain and discomfort which can be relieved by medications, her heart will slow down and she might have congestive heart failure, build up with fluid. Oxygen will help relieve her breathing problems, massage helps discomfort in the legs and other places of pain and or swelling. Eventually the area behind the heart will fill up with fluid and the heart will stop. It just depends on her type of cancer, rate of growth and how it travels. Please look into hospice if you intend to care for her at home. She could have years left or months or weeks depends on the growth and how it interacts with her body. My aunt had a similiar thing, she had heart problems to start with and then they found the tumor by the aorta, she lived 2 years, hers was slow growing.
