It depends what kind of finish you want. New Duralco(TM) 6105 SP, Stainless Steel Paint Combines the Corrosion Resistance of 316L Stainless Steel with The High Temperature Protection of Cotronics' Specialty Binders to Form a 1200 deg F, Protective Coating.
Easy to use. Just shake, spray and dry. Duralco(TM) 6105 SP cures at room temperature to form a protective layer of stainless steel.
Economical. Just one can coats and protects up to 30 square feet of metal.
You can also use an epoxy paint for painting stainless steel. An epoxy primer would be certainly be suitable for this application. However it would be wise to abrade the surface using something that does not cause iron particles to become embedded in it. In any event, surface abrasion should be light. As an alternative, a phosphoric acid activated vinyl wash primer applied to a degreased surface and then top coated with a liquid epoxy would also be an excellent finish system.

Why are you using stainless if you are just going to paint it?
I've never actually tried it, but I bet you could powder coat a stainless part. E-mail me if you want to give it a try. I could probably get a sample done for you and send it to you.

I assume you're looking into painting for corrosion protectiong. Why so opposed to SSt alloyed with Chrome? It works great for corrosion protection!
Painting is very difficult. Something Rustoleum may work ok, but metals tend to shed paint eventually no matter what you do.
