Wow, you have a project on your hands.Did you really want to get rid of the popcorn? I guess it doesn't matter now since you've already started. You could of used a heavy napped roller( for future reference) You are going about it the right way, to make the scraping a little easier, see if you can get ahold of a floor scraper( it has a long handle like a shovel and a straight blade on the end)
Good Luck

i'm undecided what the "experts" assist you to recognize, besides the fact that that is been my journey that flat paint works, lasts, and protects ok on bathing room ceilings. My homestead has a small bathing room with air flow presented basically by making use of an open window in summer time. My on a regular basis showers can pass away the partitions and ceiling extremely moist. there has been no mildew, moisture harm, or peeling paint in the two years that I even have lived there and no info from the previous proprietor. the finished bathing room is tiled to a heigth of five' all around and flat paint on the partitions and ceiling something of ways up. I do open the door after showering and use the window in warmer climate. I in no way pass away the room closed for any prolonged volume of time. I did use 2 coats of severe high quality latex paint over one coat of superb high quality latex primer once I painted presently after moving in. on the uncommon instances that I even have mandatory to bathe a stain or spot of airborne dirt and dirt off the partitions I even have seen no unfavourable effects. i'm beneficial that in case you stick to the paint producer's concepts you would be extremely thrilled and risk-free to apply a flat latex.

Use a wider tool. A ten inch drywall knife. Looks like a putty knife on steriods. There will be less chance of digging into the ceiling too. Any hardware store has them.

hi you may want to try using a steamer it will soften the ceiling up way faster than a spray bottle and it is heated which will help scraping it off. also get a bigger tool to scrape it with. (like a roof rake which has little groves in it to grab nails will be beneficial on the little popcorns lol) good luck on your room.

It's called a popcorn ceiling and I understand its pretty hard to remove if your not a professional. You probably would be better off painting it with a roller for popcorn ceilings or hire somebody if you can afford it. You won't be able to get it smooth with what ur doing.

You are going to have very ugly patches because you cannot get a smooth surface this way. You may want to re-plaster and sand to a smooth surface, prime and then paint. However, this is very time consuming and painstaking. The upside is that you will be happier for a job well done.
