Trick question. Adolf Hitler was born to father Alois Hitler on April 20th, 1889. Alois was an illegitimate child, and (for many years) used the surname 'Schicklgruber', his mother's maden name.

However, Alois was using his Stepfather Johann Hiedler's (later changed to Hilter, likely from a clerical error / oversite) surname by 1879, 10 years before Adolf was born.

Would you be looking for the answer "Schicklgruber"? This was his father's original surname, and it was suggested by Adolf's enemies (German and Allied) that it was Adolf's true surname, even though he was in fact legally born a "Hitler".
