Whoever told you that is half right.
Basically all conditioning shampoos have some sort of emoillients in them that can cause build up eventually. I've heard, though, that Pantene in particular causes this problem.
Having said that, you don't necesarily have to buy a salon brand shampoo; sounds like a stylist was trying to get you to buy something.
However, one I tried and really liked was Biologe (don't remember if this is sold in salons or not) Also, washing with a clarifying shampoo every time your hair is feeling a bit heavy or greasy isn't a bad idea (Herbal Essenses De-gunkify is a good one)

I like Bed Head Products I use Dumb Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner and Moisture Maniac Shampoo and Conditioner.

I swear by bed head products i love them all...there shampoo's and conditioners are great and really work well...they have a wide variety for all you needs and they also have many product systems that go along with the shampoo and conditioners like i whole set.....they leave my hair feeeling and looking wonderfull......

My favorite shampoo is baby shampoo like the original Johnsons baby shampoo it rinses soo clean and i love the smell .

Panteen Pro-V does not use wax in their products. It is, in my opinion, the best there is out there. Herbal Essences does use wax though and it is not good for your hair.

well i think that you should use tressme', it's like the best shampoo out there right now, i use it and my hair has really gotten longer after the past three weeks, i really suggest that you use tressme'
