I would help them; I can think for myself and make my own decisions. I don't need someone telling me what to do. I would want someone to help me in such a situation; it would be traumatic dying that way!

Let us reason this out.
If I heard a voice in my head saying not to save them, how would I know it was in fact god and not a deceptive spirit, my own fear, or some other factor?
I already assume that my family, all Christians, will be fine if they die, so that statement from the voice would be rather redundant if it came from God.
Since the God of the Bible is all-powerful and all-suffiecent, would he need anything, including people to die? It may be in His plan, but would it be necessary? The answer I think is no, it would not be necessary.
Now, if we modify your question some and assume that we encounter God in such a way that there is no doubt that this is God speaking to us, then you would get the answer you are looking for; I would obey God.

Great question. The answers indicate the major problem with religion as a whole. Humans thinking they are on the same level as god and able to see her big picture. If you knew as much as god and were the best judge of all things, then why are you here on earth and not sitting on god's throne?
Why is it that, if written in the bible because god spoke to someone 1000 year ago, then it's God's word. But if God speaks to someone now, it's not considered God's word. Do you think that god all of a sudden decided to stop speaking after the bible was written (and editted by various kings)?

I am a Christian and defintely believe in God. I think you have a great question and I"m not going to give the "God wouldn't do that" because in the bible He did things like that as tests, right?
I would save my family and ask God for forgiveness. I would tell Him that he gave me free will and I was using it. If they had to die, he would have to kill them some other way that I couldn't prevent. I also believe that my God is loving and would understand why I felt that way.
You asked for the truth and there it is.

I will try to give you an honest answer.
I am sorry but my English is not perfect.
Having only 2-3 seconds to think i realize that there are 3
possibilities.
a) This voice is in my imagination.
b) This is a real voice but not from Jesus (Satan?)
c) It is really Jesus and he realy asks this from me.
My action : I am a simple man, i cant know what is the
truth (a), (b) or (c). -----> So i will help them
If the true answer was realy (c) i can apologize and say:
My Lord you made me a weak man and i desobeyed you
because i didnt know if it was realy you and He will forgive me
No problem : It is a WIN/WIN case.
Try more dificult questions my friend.

I'm not a Christian... but
I would not listen to that so called voice of Jesus in my head, saying not to help my family, God will help them. You should not leave it like that. This 'voice' of Jesus, is your own voice, behind 'Jesus' It's your own consienence that is saying this. Not Jesus. So that should be ignored, and you should go with what your heart desires, save your family.
So yea, go in there and try to save our family, praying to God to help you. And ignore then devil that is saying in your head to leat your family die, God will save them!
Think real. think logic... Good asnwers to the rest of the people.... good choices, exactly what I was expecting....
How can you hear Jesus? Why you if you can? Don't you think it's your own brain saying this disguised as Jesus?
Don't you agree?

this is kinda like the story of abraham and how god told him to sacrifice his son, just before he struck his son an angel of the lord stopped him, because god knew he was truly obedient.
god tests everyone, but you better believe if i hear voice telling me to let my family die, id be telling it that im going with them, because im either gonna die saving them, or die with them. if god needs them that bad, he won't let a mere mortal like me stand in his way.

Tuff call.
In a situation like that, I'm gonna be far too busy to worry about voices in my head. I'll worry about what that was all about after the emergency is over.

I would do anything and everything in my power to save my family, then worry later about getting to a shrink for the voices in my head.

I would assume that the thought in my head was not Jesus since such a thought would violate His written Word and therefore I would save my family.
