hearing from people... drinking alcohol with no preservatives doesnt give you a hangover in the morning? is this true?

Thats why everyone in amsterdam drinks it.

Not true. The combination of dehydration plus impurities in the alcohol is the source of the hangover. Only beer and wine have sulfites (kills the bad yeasts and contaminants) where hard liquore has no such additive...and yet drinking hard liquor gives hangovers every bit as easily.

The hangover comes from how much and what you drank and your body's ability to metabolize alcohol and sugars. Any preservatives have little if anything to do with the hangover unless you are allergic to the sulfites put in some wines.

The preservatives you are talking about are probably sulfites. They are present in wine, with generally higher levels in white wine. Sulfites are actually anti-oxidants-- if you've ever smelled dried apricots, thats a strong example of sulfites.

Most people have no reaction to sulfites. Some people are allergic and will get bad headaches, etc.

I've personally found that beer gives me a very bad hangover, while red wine does not. I don't know what causes this.
