attacked was more like it, but the wound is not bad. my brother called the police and filed a report. the dog owner went with me to the doctor to get it checked out. she payed for the cab rides and the copay of the doctor. the police say she is going to get a letter and will have to watch the dog for ten days for erratic behavior. Now here's the thing: this dog has now attacked me AND my brother at this point. unprovoked. when it attacked my brother it didn't break the skin so he didn't take any action, he just chewed the owner out. but the attack on me today broke the skin (but like i said its not a bad wound, it just hurts like B****!! and only bled a little.)

should i take further action with the police report? can i take further action? i believe the owner is not being responsible the the public with a dog that has now attacked TWO people. I don't want to hurt the dog, just make the owner realize she needs to properly handle this dog, and not brush off this situation.

my brother was attacked over a year ago. he was wearing more layers at the time so the bite didn't break through the skin. so he didn't report it, he just chewed the lady out.

both attacks were unprovoked, i can assure you that. i know dogs, he wasn't trying to play.

also, i DO NOT want the dog to be put down. i just want the owner to basically wise up and restrian her dog better.

if i had been a child, i would have been on the ground and possibly mauled. so i don't want this to happen again.

the owner claims that she bought a muzzle after my bro was bitten but she is obviously not using it. she needs to know to be more responsible when that dog is in public.

Turn in a police report and press charges, and go to the er and get it treated.

You and your Brother should go alert them that the same happened to your brother and on which date. If there is concern for illness,.. then your brother may have their life/health in danger as well. However, the dog just may not be trained and is trying to be friendly and your reaction was different then your brothers,.. so your brother didn't get damaged for playing into the correct responce the dog was seeking,.. whereas you gave a different expression or movement,.. likely one the dog wasn't use to or didn't plan for.

Also take into account any scratches from the dog's nails/claws. Those can be just as bad as a dog bite but people tend to brush them off with " Well, it's not a cat,...".

If they find out about your brother,.. then they might go with the third strike thing where next attack/incident they take things very seriously,.. if your brother isn't counted then it may take two more attacks. They probably will want to check the dog ten days after your brother's attack and ten days after your attack. You can see the difference it would make if things were at a different point during your attack and your brothers. It could cut all your lives much shorter if it's something serious,.. or the complications can be much worse.

Over all,.. past the reports and doing what needs to be done. Chill out and don't get yourself worried,.. or your immune system might not work as well and you'll end up with a flu or something and panicing through that, too.

P.S. If the dog is always like that,.. then the dog's owners need training. Tell them to start researching the the tecniques "The Dog Whisperer" uses for the life of their dog because if their dog isn't sick and acts like that, things could get blown out of porporion in the Legal System and their dog could be put down for something a little training would fix. It's the Dog Owners that need to be trained, too,.. this is why I suggest "The Dog Whisperer". Let them know your concerned for the dog's life as much as they. Otherwise, they might make up stuff to the legal system that your all just makeing up stuff because you hate them and your harassing them.

You shouldn't take any police action or anything. You will end up getting the poor dog killed for a couple of bites. The death penalty is a little too fharsh for that don't you think? I mean the dog is obviously not a ferocious killer, he bites but not in a way to cause serious injuries. Threaten the owner that you will take further action if he doesn't control the dog, but don't do it in reality.
I mean, the owner was polite to you and the police is notified, what else do you want? It is mean to want the dog's death, and you say you don't. So just let it go.
What you need to do, is take antibiotics for 4 days and a tetanus shot, if you are not vaccinated - just in case.

Please-please say you won't do anything. You can see from the rest of the answers, if you do, the dog will be killed. Just threaten the owner and tell her to keep it confined!

It really depends on the circumstances. Is the owner trying to contain the dog? Is the owner allowing the dog to run loose? Have a talk with the owner and sort these things out. She sounds reasonable enough if she's willing to pay your copay and cab fare.

I think the dog thinks it may be playing so id suggest the owner takes the dog for behaviour lessons. and if it happens again id go with the police report.

Contact your county's animal control dept. Yes, she need to do more than just pay AFTER the dog bites someone. Don't gt me wrong....I love animals more than lost people...but they may have to take the dog from her and put it down.

Report it. Who is going to be next? Don't give it a chance.
