The Biblical account of Sodom and Gomorrah is recorded in Genesis chapters 18-19. Genesis chapter 18 records the LORD and two angels coming to speak with Abraham. The LORD reiterated His promise to Abraham that he would have a son through Sarah. The LORD also informed Abraham that, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous..." Verses 22-33 record Abraham pleading with the LORD to have mercy on Sodom and Gomorrah because of the fact that Abraham's nephew, Lot, lived in Sodom.
Genesis chapter 19 records the two angels, disguised as human men, visiting Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot met the angels in the city square and urged them to stay at his house. The angels agreed. The Bible then informs us, "Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom — both young and old — surrounded the house. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them." The angels then proceeded to blind all the men of Sodom and Gomorrah and urge Lot and his family to flee from the cities to escape the wrath that God was about to deliver. Lot and his family flee the city, and then, "the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah — from the LORD out of the heavens. Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, including all those living in the cities — and also the vegetation in the land."
So, what was the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah? It is abundantly clear the homosexuality was the primary evil. The men of Sodom and Gomorrah, thinking that the angels were men, wanted to have sex with them. Those who attempt to explain away the Biblical condemnations of homosexuality claim that the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was inhospitality. While the men of Sodom and Gomorrah were clearly being inhospitable...that clearly was not all. The men of Sodom and Gomorrah desired to perform homosexual gang rape on the angels. While Sodom and Gomorrah were surely guilty of many other horrendous sins, homosexuality was the reason God poured fiery sulfur on the cities, completely destroying them and all of their inhabitants. To this day, the area where Sodom and Gomorrah were located remains a desolate wasteland. Sodom and Gomorrah serve as a powerful example of how God feels about sin in general, and homosexuality specifically.

There was a level of depravity reached in Sodom (and Gomorrah) which made God angry. We are not told the full extent of how bad it was, but we are given a clue when the angels with materialised male bodies visited Lot, the men of the town, young and old, wanted to have sex with them. They were inflamed with the desire to have sex with these beautiful angelic men so much, that Lot knew if he offered his daughter instead, they would never take him up on his offer but would perhaps even become momentarily confused. Subsequently, Lot and his daughters were saved.
Later in the Bible, Jesus described the activities of the region as being what you and I might do in living our lives day to day. This would suggest that while the depravity as going on, many were going about their normal daily activities not giving two hoots about the suffering that was being caused. it would seem that even the victims did not care, but all supported the Sodomic system to some extent.
So, whether they actively took part in evil acts or not, they were bad enough in God's eyes to be destroyed. It's a salutory warning for us. it is not enough not to get involved in badness, we must do what we can to show where the only solution to all of our problems lie. God's kingdom. If this strikes a chord, look at this web site for further information that might satisfy you.

Because God is a genocidal maniac!
I feel for all the babies in the city. Surely *they* must have been completely innocent, but God murdered them all!
On the other hand, he *did* save Lot, because Lot was a good guy, worth saving.
But hang on, when the Angels arrived to tell Lot to get the hell outta there, the mob wanted to have their wicked way with the angels. But Lot persuaded the mob to leave the angels unmolested - see Lot *was* a good guy! Except of course, he convinced the mob to leave the angels alone by offering them his two virgin daughters instead!!!!!
Blimey! I suppose Sodom got what it deserved if Lot was the *best* person in the city! I still feel for the babies though. :(

All kinds of sexual sins including homosexuality and even sex with animals.
Those where some of the same sins he sent the flood for but since he promised no more flooding he used fire.
20 Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous 21 that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."

Obviously because of 'sodomy'. What intrigues me is what went on at Gomorrah? What practice went on there? Why don't we hear of 'gomorrahmy'? Possibly something that makes gay sex, miscgenation etc look like a sunday school picnic?
We should be told!
Should the bible/koran be banned due to graphic scenes of a violent and sexual nature?
..or at least only sold under a plain cover in seedy backstreet shops to people in dodgy raincoats?

God did NOT detroy Soddom. A meteor/ comet or something like that exploded over Soddom, and God was blamed for it, just like he is blamed for everything, including 'Holy wars' nowadays! And the angels were only psychics and Lot was a child-molesterer who molestered his own daughers and made them pregnant and then he blamed them. Why would God want to save a man like that? Satan would do that, but not God! Get your facts about God straight; HE IS LOVE and does not like child-molesterers...
