I have a question, and i really need a yes or no on this if you can help me. I figure asking the military is the best place to start.

Years ago a friend of mine went on a tour of Carlsbad caverns and along the way the guide was pointing out interesting parts of the cave. I dont remember if it was my friend noticing something or the guide having said it, but a certain corner of a dark room came up in this story.

he said that there is a set of metal stairs that lead into the darkness. and according to this, it was said to be a secret military base of some sort (maybe a command center of some sorts).

Has anyone ever heard of this? is this true? dont really need to know what it is just if it is.

I don't really know, but I doubt it. I see two possibilities;

1. The stairs just lead to another section of the caverns that are not on the tour. This is pretty common as sections of caverns are often not developed enough to safely have tourists in them.

2. There may well have been some type of military/civilian center located in it at one time. This might be especially likely during the cold war years when it might have been feasible to use natural cavers as a type of bunker. If this is the case, I doubt it is still used today as more modern facilities would be more stable and readily available.

hello! i'm a Geophysicist with a Masters degree and that i imagine i will provide some perception. i don't think of that this tale is authentic. on the Carlsbad-cavern valid internet web site they declare that the cave became no longer all formed promptly, yet became formed in sequence. the first of which got here about 210 million, with the hot version happening purely 4 million years in the past. i will see how this may have created confusion for the geologists in contact, finding out one element at 2 hundred+ and then yet another at purely 4!!! although, it would make experience that the limestone will be shrink by at distinct time sessions, this isn't an unusual way for a cave gadget to be formed. so a techniques because the signal, i won't be able to locate the different source that asserts that they revealed a demonstration courting the completed cave, i will inform you as a geophysicists that radiometric courting, even as by no ability ideal, has withstood the attempt of time and is now properly-known by each and every geologist and geophysicists I actually have talked with, those who do no longer are literally a rarity contained in the biz.

I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of a Top Secret Command Center below the Carlsbad Caverns.

I must have been on the "non secret information sharing" tour when I visited the caverns. I didn't hear anything about a secret base.
