Of course that shouldn't be your only basis for this decision. Think about it, the military isn't just a job you can quit if you don't like it. You would be possibly (even likely at this point) putting your life on the line by taking this job. What good will $20000 be to you dead?
Now I am not in any way trying to discourage military service, it is a great and noble thing, but it pisses me off to hear people whining about how their kids shouldn't be sent into combat because they "only joined so they could go to college" or whatever. Military service has pros and cons, many of each. All should be weighed before the enlistment papers are signed.

True, And you should get a job thats technical and can serve you on the outside, not much need for trigger pullers on the outside unless your ex Spec. Ops then you can get a good job. But normally high bonuses are offered for certain jobs because they cant retain enough people in it ie. people hated it or there was so much training that they could get a way better job on the outside. There is no worse job than the 63 series. mechanic U bust ur but constantly. I hated it but I also joined for the bonus money 12Gs, But fortunetly I was able to reclass to a different job and Its much better. So before you make a choice ask the recruiter what your options are and depending on your test scores..Low you might be a little screwed if you scored 50 or higher on your asvab. Dont let them lie to you and tell you ur options are only a few cuz there screwing you.Good luck

If you want to be truly happy in whatever career you chose (Military or Civilian) money should not be a factor in your decision. Find something that you are good at, that you are passionate about doing, and that is your calling. That you get paid for doing what you love is a bonus in and of itself. If you love what you are doing, it isn't called work, because you do it because you love it, not just to get paid.

It should never be the deciding factor. If you've narrowed it down to a few jobs you want, then you could factor in the bonus.

I got a $2500 bonus for signing up as an 11Delta (now 19Delta). But the recruiter made it sound more glorious than it was.

the bonus should be factored in, but so should all other factors IMHO. I was a 63B because I wanted to be a mechanic
