I think that if you have the luxury of having children, you don't need it. But for many of us who can't "just have kid's" I would definitely go for it. After 12 years of thinking I was not able to have children, we got our miracle baby girl. I would love to have another child and I would be thrilled with whatever God gave me. But if I could choose, I would want a boy so I could experience raising both.

Personally, I feel gender selection by medical intervention is wrong. I think it's not the sex of the baby that matters but the health that does. There are several methods that are used non-medically that I feel are okay. Such as the Shettle Method--I feel if you try to have a boy/girl by learning about ovulation is not wrong. It's not tampering with our bodies but learning about them.
If I had the money to select the gender of my child I wouldn't. There are far too many people out there who have cancer, AIDS, and other medical issues that could use funding. Whether it's a five cents, five dollars, fifty dollars, or five million dollars--that's more money for research and solving problems in the world.
Adopting a child is a way of gender selection--why not adopt a little boy/girl in need instead of trying to medically induce the process.
I guess I'm just biased. I don't have a lot of money but I was raised to donate the little extra I have.

I think it's a bad idea.
Let's say you choose to have a baby girl. But something goes wrong and you end up with a boy. How upset would you be with a gender that you never even wanted to begin with?
I think people should just be happy with what they get. There's so many people out there who can't even have children, so to be able to conceive is a gift in itself.

I don't view it as either right or wrong, but it would be a bad idea due to biology. It's not an accident that men and women are divided roughly 50/50, population-wise. More boys are born but they have a higher infant mortality rate, so it evens out.
If people began choosing, some societies would lean toward more boys, esp. for their first-born, which would not only reinforce sexual inequality, but glut the job market eventually, with males and increase competition for mates, just as it does in primitive societies.
In societies with little knowledge of or access to birth control, abortions and female infanticide is often practiced. Among the Yanomamo of Brazil, when there aren't enough unrelated females for the men to mate with, they stage raiding parties and abduct women as wives. This keeps a cycle of violence going which doesn't help them at all. Many other cultures have versions of this. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/1703630.stm)
Our society would be plagued by all kinds of negative effects, at which we can only guess. So, regardless of ethics or morality, it's an awful idea! We need to start valuing females as much as males, not only to stop infanticide, but sexual slavery as well, not to mention domestic violence.

Its wrong. If we were mean to select our baby's gender, Chinese women would be extinct (I feel so sorry for those women!). What is wrong with the excitemenmt of waiting? Or with being happy just to have a healthy kid? Its one of the few true surprises I have left in life. Don't go screwing with nature.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Life is a miracle in and of itself. We do not need to tamper with everything. I think that people need to understand that just because science has made many things possible it does not mean that the possibilities are in the best interests of mankind.

It's very wrong. I can't believe people these days are that selfish. I mean, there are tons of people in this world who would give ANYTHING for a child and here people are sitting around telling the doctor "give me a girl!"

I think it is wrong, and against nature. Besides, if you really want a child, boy or girl, that shouldn't matter.
