He or someone paid a certain amount so he wouldn't have to sit in jail till his court date. He still must show up on Dec. 7. If he doesn't, not only will he lose the money, they will lock him up for Failure to Appear with NO BOND.

It means someone (usually a bonding agency) put up a monetary surety that he will show up for trial. If he doesn't the bail bondsman is out of his money, and a warrent will be issued for this person's immediate arrest. Also, since the bail bondsman lost his money, he can hire bounty hunters to track them down, and in a way of speaking, the bail bondsman owns him body and soul.

he is out on bond - means he is released from custody and must return on the court date. If he doesn't he losses his bail money. he probably paid a bail bondsmen which pays all the bail up front for a fee. If he skips bail the bondsman would track him down
