Is it stupid? Really, if you think about it - it was designed to provoke charitable thoughts and hopefully charitable actions. Whether Oprah asked it or not, whether it's legit or not - it's still a wonderful gesture.
Even if you don't supply an answer, think about it - what would you do with $1,000 to help one total stranger?

It was a thought provoking question. It has no relevance being a barometer as anyone could choose or choose not to reply. Considering some of the posts I have seen here, it would have to be written in textmessaging and deal with whos her baby daddy to begin to descend into banality.

The question itself wasn't really all that stupid. Because of how little $1000 really is it provoked a lot of thought on how to use it properlly.
As for the "fame meter" thing, wether she did it for her own benefit or not doesn't change the fact that she ended up using her famous name to provoke a lot of good, well thought answers. Would that many people have even noticed it if you had posted the question? Would they all answer?

I Totally Agree, and I complained to the Yahoo!Answers Team, along with Martha's stupid question, its all fodder, and it these very rich woman, are cashing in on the participants of Y!A. Anyone that even thought they would get an Answer, was an Idiot. That is why I complained, Martha's wasn't even a Question. An Oprah's was so ridiculous, that I answered and said I would Keep the thousand, I could put it to good use for myself, I'm retired! Try living on my income.... Her question will benefit her for "future" TV Productions, wait and see! - I also told the Team, that if Yahoo was getting any residuals from these, it should be passed on to the participants! Let see if more of this "garbage" is posted.

I made a very wise decision not to be one of the 40000. I don't like Oprah or most celebrities.

Obviously 40000 people don't think it's a stupid question.
You're entitled to your opinion, and who cares?
