I was born with a heart condition so I feel that I have to lose weight. I also don't feel comfortable with feeling fat.(Not that I'm sluggish and have rolls everywhere, I just have a gut thats not cute) I'am active but its still not enough. I work out every other day or two. I don't know if it's fat or muscle fat and I really want to lose weight.( I NEED TO) On top of everything i havejust a little bit too much shape for a 13 year old and I need to lose weight so everything can balance out. I don't like to feel like my body portions out. Especially with my arms there kinda of big and i do like 10-15 push ups, but now and then i feel disgusted because i see all the other girls who are smaller than me but there shape kind of balances out.(Talk about genetics) Please respond.

I had the same problem as you. When I was 13 I weighed 180lbs. I'm 16 now and I'm 5'4 too. Now I weight 145lbs and my target is 130lbs.

My advice: Go join a gym. Everyday rotate you gym schedule.
Monday: Cardio (and abs) Tuesday: weights (and abs) Wednesday: Cardio (and abs) Thursday: weights (and abs) Friday: cardio (and abs)

I wont go into certain exercises unless you ask and I only put abs down for each one because different crunches exercises will really help get your stomach flat (and also nice lol)

everyday warm up by stetching and then, for 5-10 min. go on any machine for a warm up (not fast, just a normal pace)

EAT HEALTHY!!!!
Anything you can find for alternatives, anything low fat, low calorie, low sugar. If you have a heart condition then you might just wanna eat like this because it will be very beneficial for your heart.

I dont know who said b4 DONT LOOK AT GIRLS. Believe me, LOOK at girls.......then you'll work harder because it will give you something to strive for and say that you wanna look better than her and you will.

I'd try loosing 10-15 lbs, many 20lbs. I'm not saying to make your self look like Nicole Riche but the healthiest thing for your body is to keep working out. Dont over work yourself if it ever feels hopeless (I had those stages).

Hope I helped! kbye!

Hi Taurino,
I would recommend making an exercise routine and committing yourself to it. You may want to start off slowly. If it is running for example, you need to start off at a comfortable speed and distance for you and do that for a couple of days to a week and then gradually increase it from there. Another thing you can do is cut your portions down, but to do this you should really consult a dietician to find out how much of each food group you require. The reason I'm saying this is because you are a teenager and many teens get self conscious about their weight around your age and often resort to unhealthy behaviors to deal with food. (Meaning Eating Disorders) So, I think speaking to a dietician and seeing what you should be eating portion wise and getting proper exercise (in moderation) that you will be able to lose 5-10lbs. Also, please don't rush yourself and push yourself if you are not losing as fast as you would like to. Trust me, I learned the hard way. I have an eating disorder and went into treatment, however I was 14 when it began and didn't wind up getting help until I was 33 years old. I just wish I had the help back then. If you need anymore insight and help with this you may email me at: kmeade01@yahoo.com. Take care and good luck!

-- Lift weights -- lighter weights and do more reps; this will build muscle and tone without "bulking" you up. Do some situps. Maybe try a yoga class for strengthening and toning?

-- Not sure what sort of cardio you can do with your heart condition, but you should do cardio at least 4 times a week for at least 30-45 minutes

-- Just watch what you are eating. Replace soda with water or crystal light (actually very tasty, I made the switch a couple of months ago!). Instead of chips have a salad with your lunch. Snack on baby carrots or celery sticks.

-- Make small changes to your daily routine like taking stairs instead of the elevator. If your mom drives you to school, have her drop you off farther away instead of right at the door and walk a bit.

-- Never compare yourself to others, you're you and there is nothing that will change that (and thats a good thing!).

We have to be guarded with suggestions if you have a heart condition.
Nothing drastic with diet, but lower the carb intake and eliminate sugar if you can.
Keep working out as normal - maybe increase the number of reps.

Don't get discouraged -- 30 days is not long enough to make a really big difference. If you only lose a pound or two - that's progress.

Keep a smile - and that in itself makes you cute!

Sounds like you are getting exercise, which is great - keep it up! You can also try taking out sugar of your diet. You can make small changes with the sugar, or more drastic like all sugar out of your diet. What I mean by small changes - you can take out all juice and just drink water - lots of it! milk - skim milk not chocolate, and all other sweets you may indulge in. Look at your lunch do you bring cookies, chips? Try to take out as much sugar you are willing to live without and try that for about 2 weeks. If you are doing well, take out other sugary foods, until you have very little to no sugar in your diet. I mean the processed white sugar. If you want to continue eating baking, use brown sugar and the raw unrefined sugar (it looks like brown little squares find it at health food stores).

Also try increasing the fibre in your diet because it keeps you feeling full. Always eat breakfast so you don't overeat and carry a water bottle with you all day at school, and drink it all day.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

easiest way to do it. Up your pushups to 25 a day. Walk 2 miles a day at as fast a pace as you can. I guarentee by Jan 1 you will have lost the 5-10 you want to lose.

Also have somebody sign you up for the gym and they will set a goal for you and tell you what is body fat and what is muscle fat.Hope this helps and as for other girls just say to yourself that your special in your own way.

Wow - most girls can't do 10 -15 push-ups! That's great!! But you might want to phone your doctor to ask about what would be a good exercise program for you, considering your heart condition that you mention.

Use spray oil instead of pouring. One squirt contains only 1 calorie compared to 120 calories coming from a tablespoon. If you use oil within your cooking daily, this small change could lose that you stone over the year.

You should really give yourself credit. It sounds like you are already doing what you should to stay healthy! Plus, maybe you don't realize, but you aren't the "final product". You've got a few years left and your body will change. Keep up those good habits of yours, and the beautiful girl you are now will be a beautiful woman later.
