I would like to know how to paint over paneling. I know it is possible, but all of the advice I have received has to do with traditional wood paneling. This paneling is also wood paneling, but is decorative (looks like wall paper) and is very light, almost white in color. How should I go about painting this? Primer and then paint?

I also painted over my decorative (looks like wall paper) paneling. I washed it first with TSP (found in the paint section of Home Depot-Wal-Mart). Then I painted with a good primer..Kilz. Then painted. It took 2 coats of paint but looks much better. Hope this helps.

This type of paneling has a coating over the wood. Ask a qualified person at the paint store for the specifics on which paint will have to be used. Primer is necessary. Here's a great website with step by step pics and advice from someone who has already completed this project.

I painted my lite paneling but first I cleaned it with mean green then bought a primer then the color of paint I wanted. Just a small hint make sure that the paint dries well before applying a second coat if not you will have a mess.

Primer and paint. Use killz primer, and use a couple of coats. I have found that any kind of stain or varnish on wood paneling loves to bleed through paint. Make sure that you have primed it sufficiently to seal in the stain.

yes, but clean the paneling first. It it has a shine you must knock the shine off. You could do this with sand paper or liquid sand paper.
