I am attempting to get a job with the police department as a dispatcher, but the job has really odd hours. 6 days on, 3 days off and rotating between days (7-3) and evenings (3-11). I'll need child care for my kids, but I'm not sure what will avalible with this kind of flexibility. Any other parents with this type of problem? How did you handle it?

How about asking other Moms in the dept. Check the dept bulletin board too. Maybe you could switch off with a couple other Moms on different shifts. Better yet, start a childcare coordination cooperative.

My neighbor had the same problem she was a dispatcher for about 8 years...she asked a neighbor...i would try a stay at home mom with older kids like in highschool. or and older lady who is retired..but not really old. How many kids do you have and how old are they?

Sounds like you will need at least a part time sitter for the 3-11 shift at home.

Honestly, you may want to consider a nanny, you will benefit from having your children at home (less colds and illness) and nighttime routines will not be interrupted. Or, you should consider finding a home day care provider, who can accomodate different working hours.

sounds like you will need to enroll your child in daycare parttime and find a friend or relitive watch them in the evenings. That is tough

i would do in home daycare, try to find one that takes children from all different shifts. they are out there you just need to look around. you could try the local newspaper in your area, sometimes people put their daycare ads in there.
