Imagine if Holyfield snagged a belt, Tyson snagged another, and they squared off for a rubber match.

I'm using the term 'rubber match' very loosely. Tyson was stopped the first time, and enroute to being stopped the second time, thus the ear bite. However, winning a fight by DQ, as Holyfield did the second time, was an unsatisfying ending to a fight that was turning into real war.
There are also enough hard-core Tyson fans (I'm not one) who believe that Tyson was enroute to victory the second time, and that a third fight would bring closure to the rivalry. Thus - rubber match.

I'm also sick and tired of hearing about what would have happened, or what could happen, if Rooney was in the picture.
Tyson is a grown man, very intelligent, though a nut, and should be able to deal with other trainers as all other fighters do.
Rooney or Cus D'Amato aren't like Mister Miyagi, from the Karate Kid, teaching Tyson some magical technique.

And the dude that answered with his nonsensical notion of the glass-jawed bum, Klitschko, beating Tyson in his prime needs to go on Youtube and see if the Klitschko/Sanders fight is downloaded there. Take a look at what a thirty eight year old, significantly smaller man, who had fought five rounds in three years, did to your boy, and then come back and try to run that crap about Klitschko beating Tyson in his prime by me again.

To the man answering previous to myself. Tyson was a very good heavyweight. At his best he was indeed an extremely difficult fighter to beat. There are no illusions here.

Brad I don't think his heart is in it anymore. Let's say for speculation's sake that he gets his heart back. Even at 40 I think he could beat any of the current title holders although I don't think that he would do a total destruction job on them. I think he would need to be prepared physically and mentally, to take any of these fights into the later rounds and win by late round KO or decision.

ChrisM - A one sided Klitschko demoilition give me a break! The current heavyweight champions couldn't carry a prime Tyson's jockstrap. The heavyweight division is in the sorriest state it's been in since the early 1930's. I say this and I'm no Tyson fan. It's just plain fact.

Please stop with the Illusion that Tyson was ever good to begin with. He never beat anyone of any talent in the Heavyweight division. Name the biggest boxer he ever defeated and you come up with names like Trevor Berbick or Michael Spinx. Every time Tyson got in the ring with an opponent who was not afraid of him, he had serious trouble. People just see all of his glorious knockouts against washed up fighters and assume it was a measure of his talent. How hard is it to beat up someone who was afraid of you before they stepped in the ring? I am not a Holyfield fan but his skills are way over Tyson's head and he would have to seriously make a huge mistake in the ring for Tyson to land a knock out punch....even when they old and in nursing homes.

I can see most who answered this question knows nothing about boxing. tyson is beyoned washed up. his skills are nothing. the current champs are alot better than tyson is now and i think kltchko vs tyson in their respective primes would have been a one sided klitchko demolition. tyson had a hard time handling tall guys and they were mostly guys with no punching power with thexception of above average punching razor ruddick. klitchko would have jabbed his *** to death frustrating stupid tyson then land a hard right to put tyson out for good

u r stupid

tyson could have never beaten lewis or holyfield in their primes either and also would have gotten beat by bowe.

first off there can be no rubbermatch. Tyson lost both fights already. second tyson is not mentally able to come back. Physically he is able, but for him to make a comeback he would have to get with a good trainer that would force him to train like in the old days with cus. He would need to bring a teddy atlas back. someone to not take his crap and prepare him mentally. If you notice it was never old age that did tyson in. After he left his original crew he was never prepared to fight physically or mentally.

He's not that good to begin with. He's way overrated. He doesn't have the desire to fight anymore. Even in his prime, he hasn't really beaten any good fighters.
