No. The dead do not know anything. The Bible says they have no love, no hate, no knowledge, and that they do not praise the Lord. And it says quite plainly, "The dead know not anything." Ecclesiastes 9:5-6.

There ARE, however, fallen angels, also called devils and demons, who have the capabilitly to masquerade as human beings, and to imitate a person's manners, voice, etc. so as to appear to be genuinely that person. A biblical example of the devil doing exactly this can be found in 1 Samuel 28. When it seems that the "dead" are "alive," watch out! The devil deceives many people this way.

It is impossible.
Ecclesiastes 9:5 & 6: " For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun.

Ecclesiastes 9:10: "All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in She´ol, the place to which you are going.
(Sheol being the common grave of mankind)

So if the dead are conscious of nothing, it would be impossible to communicate with them. However, the demons can pretend to be dead spirits, so it is not a good idea to have anything to do with any one or anything which suggests that they can communicate with the dead. Don't open the door to the demons!

From the pagan perspective...

There are those who speak with the dead, in different forms and formats.

Proof? Not the way most folks would want to have it. But there are believers in this practice, from mediumship to necromancy. The practices vary from individual to individual, but there is evidence to suggest that this is possible. But, as in all things, the individual decides if this is a valid path for them.

And no, pagans do not discourage it. It is part of our everyday practices.

There are even communities where Christian Spiritualists congregate and will speak with your dead if you ask them. Check into Lily Dale NY and Cassadaga Fl.

No, they cannot. The Bible does address this very issue. Because the soul is not immortal ("the soul that sinneth, it shall die", "God alone hath immortality"), there are no conscious entities floating around, either here on Earth or in Heaven. The Bible tells us our loved ones are asleep in the grave until Christ returns, when those who believe will be resurrected to eternal (physical) life.
Those who claim to talk to the dead are actually communicating with fallen angels (demons) impersonating the dead. Keep in mind these fallen angels know everything there is to know about that deceased person, and so necromancers are able to fool gullible people who don't read their Bibles.

In my religion it can happen, but it is spoken against, Only evil comes of it. I;'m not christian, but wicca speaks against it for the same reason Impssible said. The divine sprits, ( they can communicate with the liveing, ie: dreams, intense feelings in the pit of your stomach) but they are divine, and have passed through this world. Trying to contact a divine soul would only invite the earthbound spirits to you, they are earthbound for a reason.

If you mean the spiritually dead, those who are eternally lost, the Bible tells us they know nothing and cannot communicate. If you mean the saints in heaven, they are not dead, since Christ said those who follow Him will never die. And while the living in heaven do not usually communicate directly with the living on earth, there are exceptions. God sometimes sends a living saint to communicate with someone on earth.

My religion doesn't have a rule against it. My sense of what is rationally possible has something against it.

All throught the Holy Bible, dead people (Moses, Aaron, Isaiah, Paul, etc.) are speaking to the living - YOU & ME!

These men and women of the Bible are speaking to us from the sacred Scriptures on how we should live righteous (not right) lives doing his work and will on a daily basis.

So, in answer to your question...YES.

(As for the ideology of seances...they are bunk. I speak to my dead mom in my heart, but I don't expect her to speak to me as though she were still alive.)

Wouldn't it be really annoying if they could? You know like if they stalked you blabbing and whining constantly?Like say your parents died and did this everywhere you went. No privacy etc.?Would you want them to hang around you?I seriously doubt it.If you could ask any spirit to leave you alone would you? There may even be those spirits who like to impersonate others also.If they could give you the winning lottery numbers would that make it OK?
