Black tie (DJ) - plain collar. White tie (tails) - wing collar. The collar is over the tie, not under.

question should have been 'should i wear a bow tie with a winged collar' would have been easier to answer you'd have gotten a series of noooooooooooo's

You shouldn't! Wing -collared shirts are seriously naff! Wear a dress shirt with a plain collar instead.Much better.

i don't know how to wear one, but i prefer under tie, looks more formal, but knowing society it's probably over bow tie.
