I have never seen anything in the bible that says that swearing is wrong except for saying God name in vain.

I am sorry if was misleading with this question. I don't condone cussing. Espesally in front of children. I was just wondering where the non use for it stems from. I have two young children and i try to filter the bad words as much as possable

Society. Religion, at least Christianity says not to take G0D's name in vain, but the rest of it, well the words change a lot every generation or so. It has to be society that reinforces the notion of what is and what isn't acceptable to say.

Prov 4:24 talks about a perverse tongue.
Psalm 39:1 says to sin not with your tongue while the wicked is before thee
Hab 1:13 says take heed to thy ways and sin not with my tongue.
What kind of sin can the tongue do? it doesn't say cuss but most of the words we deem as cuss words today were not in the vocabulary when the Bible was written.
besides what general purpose does it gain you?
do you feel cooler or look more intelligent from your lack of better way to describe something?
when i quit cussing i gained many words in my vocabulary. for more colorful words that are appropriate in society. i do not miss cussing one bit. God turned me away and for that i am ever grateful

Yes-- the Bible does not condone 'cussing'--
Ephesians 4:29 tells us, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."
1 Peter 3:10 declares, "For, Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech."
James 3:9-12 summarizes the issue, "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water."

Why is it a sin to cuss / swear / curse? As wearers of the name of Christ we should only allow good and positive things to come out of our mouths - things that will encourage other people (Ephesians 4:29). It is not right for praising and cursing to come out of the same mouth (James 3:9-12). We want to be known as people who promote that which is noble, loving, uplifting and encouraging.... hang with someone who cusses in every sentence and see how uplifted you feel after an hour.

i think the society sees it as wrong because of the way it is used it is mainly used in a harmful or hurtful way and thats why its deemed as wrong

but its not just cuss words its everyday words that society has made bad or unspeakable so to say for example not to long ago my oldest boy my oldest son coned my middle boy into coming and asking if penis was a bad word i come from a very open house where we talked about sex and (oh my goddness) the girls peiriods and I have tried to raise my kids that same way but with a closed mined society and what ive tried to raise them in it seem to just confuss them

To me, excessive swearing only makes a person sound stupid. A profound lack of vocabulary. So, they use these words as fillers.
