Teen preg. should definitely be discouraged in school, but not in such a way that they ostracize teen mothers. Students should be taught about pregnancy and how to avoid getting preg. They should learn about how it impacts the rest of their lives and from there it is really up to them. You cannot prevent it. I am proof of that. I disagree with a previous comment about not allowing teen mothers to participate in student gov., sports, etc. because they are representing the school. So what? Maybe instead of seeing these girls as a bad example they can take pride in the fact that they are staying in school, keeping their grades up (a requirement for sports participation) and actively taking a role in their education. I had my son at 17 yrs. of age and was asked by the school to transfer out. I declined. I went on to be captain of the volleyball team, captain of the diving team, captain of the softball team, a cheerleader and an honor grad. I also married the father of my son and am doing just fine. Not all teen pregnancies are a tragedy, it's all about how you handle it.

I was a straight A student when I got pregnant in my senior year of high school. Once I started to show I was kicked out of school and put on home study because I was a bad example. Yes it should be discouraged, but not hidden away like a secret.

As someone who continued to attend school while pregnant...it IS discouraged. You are made to feel like the worst person on the planet by students, teachers, administrators, etc. You are less than human, your child is a MISTAKE, a blunder, a problem. My daughter is none of those things. She is a blessing that the powers that be decided to give me a little earlier than I expected to receive it.

It should be discouraged period. Kids should be told about hygiene and the awesome responsibility sex can cause. Trying to teach abstinence as an option is a good idea and so is having free contraceptive devices if they really need them. We can't pretend they won't have sex - but we should let them know it's not all fun and games.

Yes, in fact, it should be discouraged everywhere. Teenagers are too young to bring a new life into this world, they need to live their own life first before they take that type of responsibility.

Well it definitely shouldn't be encouraged, but I don't think that they should be punished if it does happen. Getting kicked out of school and sent of somewhere else shouldn't happen but participating in sports, student government and the like shouldn't be allowed because they are then representing the school, but that is opening up a whole new can of worms and a really big debate.

As opposed to the principal poking tiny holes in all the boys' condoms?
I've (thankfully) never heard of a place where teen pregnancy is encouraged.
