Im a South African living in London. I have a one year working, one year holiday VISA and am interested in joining the British army. I have heard that as long as you have at least 6 months left on your VISA you can sign up. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on this topic. I am interested in working for military forces in a peace keeping capacity. I also have some experience in Psychology, although limited, and would love to do something helpful in war time situations. If anyone knows of some opportunities available for a Saffa, with 1 year working, 1 year holiday VISA, PLEASE let me know.

Its true what Andrew F said, you can ask to be included in peace-keeping with the UN, but really you have to go where you are told. With the current situation, that may mean places like Afghanistan or Iraq.

Only sign up if you are prepared to do the hard stuff.

Contact Army recruiting on this link. I am sure you will be okay to join but do not expect permanent residency in the UK when you finish your tour. You can chat to the recruiters on line at : http://www.armyjobs.mod.uk/RegularArmy/
