Any worthwhile babysitter charges at least $8 an hour, especially for a 5 year old. If the babysitter is older and has good references, $40-$50 is a normal price for 5 hours of babysitting. If the babysitter is under 16, or has little experience, I'd say $5 an hour is more reasonable.

I've babysat a lot and done lots of childcare work. Depending on the time of day, I usually say $1 per hour per age per child. So - Since you have 1 five year old, I'd say $5 an hour, as long as it's in a decent time frame. If you will be out after 11pm or before 6am I would bump those hours up to $7. However, my best clients usually pay about $10 an hour for 3 children (4,7,10). It depends on the area you are in, but the first formula seems to work pretty well until you hit about age 7 - then just keep it at $7 an hour!

Rule of thumb. You get what you pay for. If your love your child, pay the sitter enough to want the opportunity to come back. Ask the person and then throw in a bonus. Iwish you well.
