From his list, I have been enthusiastically recommending the Canon Powershot A640. Read the review and see why.

I'm going to narrow it down to compact cameras- since you didn't specify.

Canon: SD800IS, SD700IS
Panasonic: FX01, FX07 (great 28mm wide angle lens, small, built in image stabilization)
Fuji F20, F30 (only 6mp, but resolves better than most 7-8Mp. Only compact cameras with high ISO capability, tremendous battery life -580 shots)
Sony- N2. that cool 3" touch screen makes it worth it. 10Mp.

there are others - but those are some of my favorites.
