Of course, I'm not speaking of all Atheists....But if religion is a crutch, why take it away from people?

((This is not an attack, just genuinely seeking answers))

Well, most people don't need that crutch, they only think they do.

That crutch is also the reason used for much of the violence and discrimination in the world.

So, having the crutch comes with a great price - the rights and freedoms of the people.

I'm not for taking it away, and no one can convert another.

I am for getting people to think rationally. And, it's my prediction that this usually leads to atheism, deism, or some other state of being a free thinker.

But, people convert themselves. That is basic psychology. You cannot change another person who is unwilling to change themselves.

Reverse the question and you have your answer - Why do believers want to convert Atheists? Because everyone feels that their viewpoint is the one and only true viewpoint. Therefore anyone who disagrees must be wrong and only by conversion to the "true" way can they be truly happy and content.
There are so many questions on this subject - from the atheist viewpoint, the christian, muslim, jewish viewpoints. Why is it such a difficult concept for people to grasp that everybody is right and everybody is wrong at the same time? Belief is just that - belief. It is not knowledge, nor will ever be knowledge until you are dead and then it is too late either way. Anyone who says they KNOW there is no God is full of it. So is anyone who says they KNOW that there IS a God. Isn't it enough to believe yourself and let others believe what they will?
Also, to Pathfinder's earlier answer: If you truly study evolution it does not say we descended FROM monkeys. It states that monkeys and humans share common ancestry, just like the dog and the wolf or the housecat and the tiger. Do you deny that they are related genetically also?

I am atheist,I cant speak for all atheists, but I don't want to take away any crutches, or drugs.
I don't care who believes in God they are entitled to their opinion, and good luck to them, I wish them no harm.
Now as to religion, thats a different kettle of fish. I'ts the 'leaders' and 'teachers' of these people that are causing the damage
Why isnt a belief in God enough?

Well given the fact that human history show that the wars are started by those who believe in a monotheism religion then logic dictates if you take away the religion you'll take away the wars!

It is a desire to make this world a better place!
A place without death over stupid God concepts!

It is so often the religious who have trouble communicating with those of other beliefs. If they could realize that so little is known -- even their own religions -- then perhaps they would be more openminded.

It's OK to believe what you want, but at least realize that what sets you apart is that your beliefs are so difficult for an outside observer to understand. It is awful to hear those with strong convictions pass judgments on others -- especially when such passing of judgments is so contrary to the fundamentals of their gods.

Main Entry: athe·ism
Pronunciation: 'A-thE-"i-z&m
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle French athéisme, from athée atheist, from Greek atheos godless, from a- + theos god
1 archaic : UNGODLINESS, WICKEDNESS
2 a : a disbelief in the existence of deity b : the doctrine that there is no deity

Main Entry: the·ism
Pronunciation: 'thE-"i-z&m
Function: noun
: belief in the existence of a god or gods; specifically : belief in the existence of one God viewed as the creative source of the human race and the world who transcends yet is immanent in the world

So you see, it is simply a matter of opposites, and opposites attract. Why? Because they want to change to structure of the other...Also, it's the French and the Greek's fault (See Above).

rofl.... you can't "convert" a religious person. It's not like going from Catholic to Methodist.

And no one is interested in "converting" the religious to anything. If the religious stop trying to force everyone to live by what THEY think is right, then the Atheists will have no reason to argue.

I don't want to convert believers. If they are happy with their religion and they don't do harm to others, then it is fine, there is no hell that I would have to save them from. I only start to debate when I see that religion is causing problems.

because they love to hear themselves talk. nonsense chatter sounds good when spoken. all they do is attack believers no matter what religion and try to discredit their faith. it is not fair since everyone is entitled to believe what they want. No one says believing in Christ, Buddha, Rah or whatever is wrong or right so why do atheists believe it is their duty to attack people's faith and characterize them as being "stupid" if they believe that there isn't a God then so be it. They shouldn't try and insult others because they also dont share the same beliefs.

Because they have no hope.
And they see the joy of the Lord in us and can't stand it.
They refuse Christ authority and therefore seek to rob us of our joy.
Oh and religion is a crutch, sorry guys nothing personal. trying to work your way to heaven wont do anything. You have to have a relationship with the one TRUE God and you have to accept Christ gift of salivation. that's it, that's why Christians are more cheerful, we have hope of the world to come which for us is heaven.
