I don't know if I am just a crazy dog lady or what but there isn't anything I wouldn't do for my dog. She is a 7 year old pit bull and the sweetest thing you could ever imagine. I try not to spoil her as much as I do but I can't help it. Is there something wrong with me? I even put her before myself. Please don't leave me any rude remarks. I just want to know if there are other people like me.

yes, i am married and have 2 children. 12 and 14 year old girls. I didn't say I put her before my children. I said I put her before myself, not my human children. But when people ask me if I have children I tell them I have 3 daughters...2 human and one furry.

Ah... you're a classic dog mom.

Dogmomness comes in varied degrees, some are exclusive to their "fur babies" and some have "skin babies" too.

I am an exclusive mom to my "fur baby." I have no shame in this! Many dog moms are still in the closet, but anyone who knows me, knows that my dog is a big part of my life and family.

Those who would mock me have no insight as to just how enriching sharing your life with a dog can be. They think that I overcompensate with my dog because I have no children.

The truth is, I don't want any! Skin babies have different needs then dogs, and in the end they grow up and move away! My dog is my constant companion and will be with me till the end of my days or hers (whichever comes first).

Neighsayers would argue that my nurture of these gentle creatures is futile, as it does not lead to procreation of our species. But throughout civilization, dogs have lived and worked with humans. Infact, wasn't it that bond, that made those with dogs better hunters, better herders etc and essentially, helped them thrive better?

It's true, my dog no longer hunts, but she lowers my blood pressure and gives me endless joy.

I have no shame in how much I love her, and she loves me back!

No I agree with you. Dogs deserve to be spoiled. I think that the reason that a lot of us see them as our children because just like children we raise them. I don't think that you should get any bad remarks because you love your dog. There are many people that are the ones who need to get into trouble because they mistreat and abuse their dogs and animals. Also because a lot of dogs act like big kids and a lot of the time you just can't say no to them. iI hope I answered your question! And have fun with your Furry Companion!

I'm like you. I have a human child who's 25 now, but I love my dogs like a child too. I've planned vacations to please my dogs. We rented an RV and drove all the way to the WA coast instead of flying somewhere exotic because we didn't want to leave our dogs and felt that our dogs should visit the ocean at least once. I sleep with my dogs, watch TV with my dogs, and look forward to spending time with my dogs. I prefer dogs over most people. I need my dogs as much as I need food, water and shelter in order to be happy.

Your not a crazy dog lady. I treat my 4 month old Bichonpoo like my child also. She is spoiled but with a healthy amount of discipline mixed in. I take her almost everywhere with me. I spend more on her than I do on myself. She is my baby since I will never have babies of my own. I even sent out announcements to all my friends and family when I got her.

Don't worry. We have some sort of obsession about our pets. If we're not married or have kids, we tend to spoil our pets. It depends on our feelings and instincts.
But try not to spoil her too much. Some pet owners will use every single penny they have to have their pet even get their affection. Some owners buy gourmet cookies, air-conditioned pet houses and jeweled collars for their pets. So, don't worry, you're not alone. Again, don't go off the deep end.

I have a 16 month old son as well as two dogs, and while I wouldn't say I love them equally, I do love the dogs with all my heart and spoil them rotten.

Adding a dog to the family is a lifetime commitment, just as having children.

i think people should take the responsibility of a pet very seriously because that pet depends entirely on its people for survival and well-being

But if this dog is the most important thing in your life, do you think you should take an honest look at yourself?Even good parents don't have to go that far with human kids.

Let me tell u a cute story...God created man and then man was lonely so then God created Dog...(spell dog backwards) God's best friend is man and man's best friend is dog...get it??? It's called COMPASSION...and it's nothing to be embarrassed about. I am this way with cats. I adore them more than dogs.Although Chihuahua dogs are awfully tempting to hold...anyway, dogs are noble creatures and will take care of u in the sense that they protect the home and all.And in exchange for some scraps.
