Let me apologize for my fellow so called Christians. Our Bible also tells us it is not for us to judge, but for God. I am sorry you had a run in with some intolerant and judgmental Christians. We are not all that way.

What truly constitutes a sin is up to God alone. I like to think the Christians have done their best to set up "a list" of what a person should and should not do that is based on morality, common sense, the Bible, Jesus' teachings, and tradition. But that doesn't mean we got it completely right.
I don't think it's black and white, either. For example, the Bible says "Thou Shalt Not Kill." Most people would agree that this is a pretty good rule to live by. But what does this mean for soldiers? Or what about a person who is driving a car when someone steps out in front of them? Or what about self-defense? This is where it comes down to the individual, the specific act, and God.
And I personally DO NOT believe that God will send anyone to hell just for sinning. I've said this before: people send themselves to hell by their own actions, lack of repentance and refusal to even consider accepting God's love and forgiveness.
So back to the question - as part of an organized religion, yes, in our fallibility we can and have decided what is a "sin." Can we decide the punishment? No - that is in God's hands.

Christians know what sin is. If the Christian chooses to go down the road of sin, he/she knows the price. If the Christian chooses to go down the road of wisdom and Love for God, then we also know what is best. Christians only say that to people who are truely sinners. Don't be so judgemental. Read more and find out . Christians don't tell others they will go to hell. We don't know. Only God knows where we(including you) will go. We all try to walk the straight and narrow. In other words a good life. Freedom of speach, but that doesn't say we know where we will go. You are using two slangs, that Christians use, when they are teasing someone else. There is no meaning behind those two slangs, and all Christians know the truth. If we sin, then there will be a punishment and God could send us to hell. Your taking this too seriously. Read the Holy Bible and you will see what Christians mean when they say this. You did not understand what we mean by this. More too it, then your seeing. You are only seeing it in a small %.

No, we cannot decide what is sin and what is not. That is why we have the 10 Commandments. They tell us what sin is. We are not to alter this in any way, and we are expected to obey all 10 of them, not just 9. It isn't the "10 Suggestions" or the "10 Multiple Choices".
You have to understand that those who "do not believe as we believe" have made a conscious decision to reject their Creator, who has gone to great lengths to show them His love, leave them specific instructions on how to behave and what they need to do to leave this planet alive.
For those few people in the world who have never, ever heard of the Gospel and have never had a chance to make a decision for or against Him, God knows their hearts. This is also why there is an apparent delay in His Return. He wants everyone to be saved - but not everyone wants to be saved! He wants to give them time enough to make a decision.
If people "go to Hell", it's not God's fault. They made a conscious decision on their own to go there. They have decided that it would be better to spend an eternity without God, the One person who loves them more than anyone on Earth could possibly love them.

People must be quoting what God says in the Bible, which is what God indicates is the disposition of people who disobey him and reject his forgiveness and salvation.
No one can actually predict the ultimate fate of the human souls except god, but based on current behavior and morals, they can predict what will most likely happen if they do not mend their ways, repent of their sins and turn back to God, accepting his redemption offered by Jesus..
Muslims who have converted to christianity have told me that muslims do not believe in the bible, and reject it, replacing it with the Quran, which contradicts the Bible. So people choose their own fate. Other people then have the right to comment on their decision.

Absolutely not. But God most certainly can. And he has, and if you don't keep his commandments then you will be eternally punished. The only way out his Jesus because through him we can become perfect as him, and we can be made righteous. So on the day of judgemenet we don't face a wrath filled God who looks at our sins, but rather see's the good we did in Christ.

If a Christian told you to "go to hell" or that "God would punish you" the devil had control of their tongue. The interpretations of what sin is may vary but the punishment is always the same.
Peace :)

No, Christians do not decide and choose what is a sin, what is not, and what the punishment. However, the Bible does clarify what is a sin.

It is easy when the Bible says that when you commit a sin you will die the second death for it if you have not forsaken it and gotten God to forgive you. If you have not done these two things, then you are a goner.

Noone can tell you that YOU will go to hell or heaven. Thats only Gods choice to make, but as Christians that know the Bible, God tells us to tell you what He says is sin, and point you to go look it up yourself. and God is pretty clear on what sin is if you study and prayer. and He is clear on what happens if ppl dont stop sinning. He condemns noone to hell. But ppl deceide their own path. we can obey God and love Him and have salvation, or we can disobey and choose hell for ourselves. God doesnt choose to punish the sinner, the sinner choses it. What would God would do with them. they couldnt go to heaven with ppl who dont sin . They would make heaven like hell, and we would have all the same problems we have here now. that wouldnt be fiar to those of us who love God and obey. But I know God is a God quick to forgive anyone, and if one just asks, means it and stops sinning and accets Jesus as their own saviour, salvation comes. BUt its our own individual choice. we dont deceide what sin is. God does, and we just hear and obey. sorry if others have disappointed you. forgive them as you want God to forgiveyou. we are to love and forgive as God does and some that claim to be Christian, havent fully got that whole message yet. we are all learning and growing. forgive and move on.
