Yes, smoking should be illegal. But it will never be because you see, our government is in bed with the tobacco growers. So they can't make it illegal and continue to pay the tobacco farmers. It's unbelievable! If when I was smoking it was made illegal I would not have taken the chance of buying it, I would've had to stop, no choice in the matter. That's the very best way to stop all the problems from smoking tobacco. Don't allow it to be sold. Now, there would always be a black market, as there is for everything illegal, but I bet most people who are law abiding would not take the chance. But we can't, because we have an obligation to people who manufacture the stuff. That's where the changes need to be made...at the manufacturing level. If it weren't profitable, no one would grow it. And for all the people who are going to say we can't let the government have that much control over what we can and can't do, I got news for ya...they already do!

That is an excellent question. Present Federal Law in the United States if interpreted as it was intended would declare cigarettes to be illegal but nearly 30% of people smoke and they are likely to vote should such come to pass. From a Public Health standpoint cigarettes are the most harmful substance to which humanity has ever been exposed far more toxic than anything you have heard about or seen in movies. Unfortunately the right to harm oneself is considered an American right. My father continues to smoke although he is able to smoke only 1/2 cigarette at a time due to his lung disease.

This is totally an opinion question, but I would say yes. Smoking is really damaging to health both of those who smoke and those who are forced to be around them. Smoking is disgusting and makes people smell bad, look gross, and it often leads to worse things. There are a ton of alternatives to lighting up a cigarette--both as a stress relief and as a source of nicotine if you're too pathetic and weak to get over an addiction. Yes, I know, addictions are hard, but plenty of people have quit cold-turkey and survived.

Im a "social smoker" as one would say and live in CO...they have banned smoking inside restaurants and bars (my key places to have a smoke) and i feel that there is no reason anyone can say thats wrong... the only benefit smoking has is none to the smoker but tons to the sellers. However, i always felt that if smoking is SO bad, why haven't they made it Illegal so no one can smoke? And how does smoking lead to other drugs???? I mean... seriously.

No, but smoking them in public places should be. Eliminating such a huge industry would be harmful to the economy, but limiting smokers to theirs houses, properties, and cars allows not everbody, but more people to be winners. Certain cities, such as Atlantic City, should be allowed to keep smoking in casinos, or the economy might fall greatly for people who want to smoke in casinos.

No. We should allow insurance companies to charge more if they desire to smokers. We should also eliminate all government funded health care so people who do not take care of their bodies: smoking, overeating, poor eating, etc. do not get a free ride. Time for personal responsibility. I do not smoke and cannot stand it. I think it is great that bars and restaurants have been forced to ban it.
