come not wearing jeans without sounding too snotty? (Basically country club attire)

The party will be loads of fun with Mad Science coming and the Bubble lady doing a show. The majority of the kids are members at other clubs, however, I just wanted to word it in a different way on the invite to tell the parents the clubs dress code. This is a space that can hold 30 of his classmates!

when i worked at a club we had great kids parties all the time and the prices were GREAT -- members get deals so to those talking chuckie cheese -- you probably pay more!

anyway - what my clients would usually do it just write.... please no denim. this way it covers the jeans - any color and skirts or such. most parents actually liked it - it was a way to get the kids to wear their other clothes outside of school and church!

That sounds like a fun party. I think just add a little note on the bottom of the party saying something like:

Dress Code: No jeans. Dress classy but comfortably.

Looking forward to seeing you at the party!

And don't listen to any of the others who are saying a country club sounds "snotty." It is your son's party and you can celebrate it how you want. If you can afford it, well then good for you.

I think that jeans are appropriate at a five year old birthday party--country club or not. They are five for heaven sake! Adults,on the other hand, should dress proper. It is a Country Club. And some may find it snooty for a child. But it is your child and your party. Just tell it like it is. Either say no-jeans or say semi-formal, or the Country Club requires... or doesn't accept or the one I always use " My mom doesn't want!" I know pretty sad, but it works!!

on the same invitation I would suggest doing a separate line that goes "dress code: casual attire but no jeans or sports suits" or something along the line. I've seen it done many times, and it's always good to know that way the kids and parents won't receive dirty looks.

State somewhere on the invitation that the club does not allow jeans; that way, the "bad guy" is the club and its rules, and not you personally. Of course, lots of kids this age wear jeans exclusively, so if I were you, I'd count on a lot of declined invitations. I have to say - it sounds awfully stiff and formal for a bunch of five-year-old kids; on the whole, I think I feel sorry for your son.

It sounds like fun, but why you would have a 5 year old's party at a country club just blows my mind away. I don't mean to be rude, but the snobbery shows up right in the location of the party.

I would put a seperate loose paper in with the invitation stating the dress code for the club

The kids would have a better time at one of those MacDonalds with the playroom inside. What do YOU care what the kids are wearing? They are there to have fun and play. Dressing kids up, is for church. Stop being snobs. I think you're trying to show off for the parents, aren't you?

If you're worried about coming off looking like a snob then why are you having a child's 5th birthday party at a country club? The kids would be just as happy at Chuck E. Cheese, or a playground somewhere. They'll never know the difference.
