Well middle of the road is HB, then they either go harder, 1H, 2H, 3H etc upto about 7H I think, or softer 1B 2B etc

the UK equivalent of a No.2 pencil is 2B. If you need to take that kind of multiple choice test that will eventually be graded by a machine, you need a 2B pencil for sure. HB is a bit lighter and harder than No.2.

2HB is a #2 pencil.
Just to be sure I looked up Bic replacement lead for a .5mm pencil. 2HB and #2 lead althogh named for differant markets were the same SKU (upc) code.

we just have normal pencils. we have hb 1b 2b 3b 4b and 1h 2h 3h 4h

Dunno, but H is hard, 2H is very hard, HB is medium, B is soft and 2B is very soft. Hope that helps.
