He keeps saying to his mates that he's not good enough for me and now stopped talking to me completely. Why?

yes he does like you. the reason why he has stopped talking to you, I believe, is that he is too insecure and unconfident. the fact that he thinks that he is not good enough for you makes him not talk to you.

If he feels not good enough for you...he is probably hurting inside. To stop himself from getting a broken heart he is probably staying away from you for his own good.
Talk to him and tell him that you like him, even if just to be his freind.
I am in a similar situation with a bloke - I have liked him for years - although I have mainly kept it to myself. I feel I am not good enough for this guy - cause I am not the same religion as he is (and he is devout). He is always nice to me when we meet though, but I get hurt cause I know he would reject me on the grounds of religion - so to prevent me getting a broken heart. I stay away from him

i think he likes you but he's probably trying to get over you which is why he stopped talking to you.
